Agreed, though the same could be argued for credit card payment processors like Visa and Mastercard taking a 2-2.5% cut of every transaction. Shouldn't they also just be regulated to only accept a fixed amount instead? I'm genuine

Right, the percentage of Apple's cut isn't the key part of this EU case. Certainly doesn't help that it's the current 30% but it being 15% won't change the fundamental issues being argued - whether Apple is abusing

I've been using the new Google TV (different from just a Chromecast dongle) and think it's pretty good, especially if you're also using other Google apps and services. $50 is a pretty reasonable price for the feature-set, and

This seems pointless on so many fronts, especially a waste of engineering resources at Nvidia. Last time they accidentally broken their own throttle.

I think getting out the M2 before the fabled "M1X" actually makes sense. This could explain the decision to put the M1 into the new iPad Pros, to re-use the M1 chips elsewhere once the new M2 becomes available. Main reason being t

Nice TLDR! It's apples and oranges comparison to Apple M1 chips (server vs. consumer) but does hint at what's possible with the next generation ARM Cortex "X2" cores, that could appear in next year's flagship smartp

The article makes a good point on positioning, but I'm not sure if it's due to lack of data points. Sure Apple seems to be using the M1 in across every price segment for their products, but M1 is also literally the first iteration

I wonder if Apple's strategy is to push macOS developers to optimize for certain SOC cadences, rather than having to traditionally target every system configuration possible. Therefore they opted to only have limited SKUs of the M1: on

Agreed, Apple wants to avoid Microsoft's failure with trying to splinter a desktop-oriented OS for all form factors. I tried to like Windows 8 but found it too confusing and frustrating to use. While we might all like the idea of devic

I wonder even if that never comes to fruition, there'll be a "hackpad" that's essentially flashing/installing macOS onto an iPad Pro. Same M1 SOC hypothetically should be straightforward.

The chip/SOC choice is perplexing: why only the A12 and not the more powerful A12X/A12Z? It would seem more future proof for graphics intensive workloads. For comparison, the A12 is ~30% better in CPU tasks but also ~30% worse in

The interview responses seem to be out of touch. No mention of AMD or Ampere, which are arguably eating Intel's lunch in this exact industry space. Just a focus on the "customer opportunity" and "revenue opportunity"

Likewise I've wanted one for a long time but at this rate will probably never come to pass. One reason are the reportedly weird but very persistent bugs as OP mentioned. Bigger reason is uncertainty about the Windows platform. ChromeOS

TLDR from Anandtech is that while this is a good improvement over previous gen, it still falls behind AMD (Epyc) and ARM (Altra) counterparts. What's somewhat alarming is that on a per-core comparison (28-core 205W designs), the perfor

I think it was largely due to their historically bleeding edge fabrication tech/node and market share. Until the recent resurgence of AMD and rise of ARM, Intel was able to sell out their inventory and keep their fabs at 100% capacity.

What's surprising is that there are so many skus - many of which are redundant given the limited core count (i7 and i9 both have 8 physical cores and 16 threads). Rumors are that the next iteration (Alder Lake) will be released end of
