Yes, I should have said "you OR the people around you". Someone needs to be excited, but they certainly aren't all going to be (most will think it's a bad idea). This is also a good reason to spend more time with the "right" people (people

That's a good strategy. Even if the idea were good, if you and the people around you aren't excited about it, then it will be difficult to execute well.

Yeah, random curiosity is definitely a good thing, or at least some amount of it is (like spending 20% of your time on completely random things). But during the other 80% of the time, we just need to move forward without getting blocked by

But a lot of the other words make it entertaining. Cutting it down to a few power-point slides full of bullets would be a lot more concise, but also boring (and therefore less effective).

It's not at all the same. Do you understand the difference between buying a lottery ticket and playing russian roulette? Your strategy should be to seek upside while limiting downside.

It's obviously not perfect, but the notion that it's worthless is dangerously wrong. I can confirm from experience that it covers treatment at least some of the time (nobody I know has been denied).

The smart employees will go to the places that have a better atmosphere, so those places will have both things. It really isn't that complicated. It's like asking whether you'd rather spend your time in a maximum security prison, or a tropi

Nonsense. The "perks" have a lot to do with improving the culture and atmosphere of a place. I've worked at a number of companies with different "perks" (MS, Sun, Intel, and Google), and I can tell you that it is very important. At this poi

I wouldn't put c++ in the same category as Java. C++ has many layers of "stuff" (templates, macros, etc) while the Java compiler is so simple that you can easily do a reverse-compile. Personally, I'd rather have a useful syntax and maybe a

There's a big difference between "maybe we'll sell eventually" and "we're looking to flip this thing right now". It's important to avoid _having_ to sell.

It's funny that you mention the economist, because I used to feel the same way about them, but then a few years ago they published some article about Google that was full of errors. Clearly the old model isn't working though. I think the so

The fundamental problem is real though. News sites, including social news like reddit, are riddled with errors. Finding the truth often requires a real effort on the part of the reader, and for the most part I'm just too lazy/busy.

So don't use inheritance. Seriously. Inheritance is annoying, but unnecessary. I generally avoid it. You can still use other parts of OO.
