Each user today commands a personal fleet of many devices. "You get to use Ruby" is a weak justification for a monolithic architecture.

Yes, there was a point it was clearly the best option. Qualitative it was easy to understand. The mongo Cli looked exactly like MySQL. And it's single node performance was decent. CouchDB was super slow. Cassandra was amazing but a

The ceiling will be significantly higher. But it's an interesting floor given that most employers know and hate paying for recruiters.

As an "old" programmer myself am a bit disappointed in the takeaway that jsx is a templating language. State management is the more important topic and the React tool chain has some great options for addressing it.

This is a great suggestion. If site requires SEO why bother rolling another search engine. Everyone is just going to complain that it isn't google anyways.

Saying postgres is "good enough" acknowledges that elastic search is "better" but based on minimum viable product requirements may not be necessary. It's a fair point that is mostly valid when approaching a deadlin

The devops issues aren't a valid counter-point. Tuning an RDBMS is an art. It's much easier to scale a ephemeral search service than a transactional database. Likely even one search node will support a higher query throughput.

You are resisting change. User experience code is different from backend code. It is often a pile of incomplete abstractions and device specific hacks.

From my experience building and deploying production systems with mongodb the primary benefit is not needing a migration or ORM framework. - Deployments get much simpler when migrations for additive changes are unnecessary. Hundreds of dep

Agreed. C, Lisp, and Python are all integration languages. There's a fair bit of PL history in there, but it's mostly one problem set. A better mix would be: Python, Javascript, SQL, and Regular Expressions This mix would cover

That and 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created are great reads. One of the main points of 1491 was the evidence of disease decimating the Americas even prior to the arrival of Cortes.

Colorblindness isn't a uniform condition. Best practice is to utilize multiple signifiers (hue, lightness/darkness, iconography, etc)

Merits of this framework aside, the front end space is way too volatile to provide a single unversioned binary and walk away. Don't like micro frameworks? Install bootstrap or foundation.
