To clarify the comment about refunds. Participants would first go to the promoter. But if they were unable to resolve the dispute, they could then go to their bank and dispute the charge. My understanding of this is murky, but in the end

This is frustrating, but not necessarily a conflict of interest. Any type of events business carries a significant risk to a payment processor. Funds are paid up front before services are delivered. If the event doesn't happen there

Don't know the actual contracts here but the notion that a telecom firm has obligations to a government body is hardly surprising. Telecom providers work with government bodies to place and access poles via eminent domain. Even with c

Lower project bids reduce the level of commitment on the part of both the client and contractor. With only $1 at risk, the amount of leverage the client can exert over the work product is minimal. Volunteering is not the same relationship

From the OP: > (Incidentally, I think that representing all these different concepts as a single string type is a mistake. Human-readable text, file paths, SQL statements, and others are all conceptually different, and this should be rep

The original use of my twitter account was to serve as an SMS distribution link for online-gaming invites between a small group of friends. Presently it provides a less spammy equivalent to linked-in groups. Sort of like delicious in it&#x

Ok then. Build an application heavily dependent on caching. Restart memcached in the middle a production workload. How long does it take to get out from under the dog pile? EDIT: This started out a bit flippant. Wanted to make the point

"Actual numbers" for caching services only have meaning in the context of a particular application.

External audits meant nothing with Enron. Criminal liability is the key.

Agreed why add process when financial and criminal liability would suffice. Add sufficient liability and players will improve their internal processes appropriately.

My primary understanding of Cognito was that it was a great way to turn social or developer login into temporary AWS credentials with a specified role, allowing AWS apis to be safely used client side.

Sometimes it's better to fix the database in production rather than add another database to production.

This is an optimistic counterpoint. However realistically nearly all persistence services such as MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Memcache, ElasticSearch, etc either have been insufficiently hardened as a public service or flat out are not intend

The current problem with this architecture is the network cannot be used as a security layer. Databases, search engines, etc need ports opened to the public rather than to selected servers.

It's useful to "mount" the database to the app process via injected configuration. Application and database servers are different animals. Not sure why a 'hybrid' approach would be surprising or unappealing.

More accurate TL;DR: Docker and containerized architectures generally would be improved by solving this list of problems.

Agreed. Application runtime dependencies are a common source of communication breakdowns between development and infrastructure teams. Making the application container a maintained build file on the project improves this communication. doc

It's obvious that this analysis is shallow by the failure to mention Google Play. Don't have a particular opinion on the merits of these services, only that leaving out Google makes the analysis incomplete.

Database is the sticky part of this strategy. If Blue is in production and Green is on deck, how are updates to the Blue database pushed to Green?

Even "past century" is an over-simplification. Inns are estimated to have existed for over 2000 years. This is a very established business model.
