While it doesn't literally cost the charity anything this go-around, it is pretty unseemly behavior in a charity event. If I was a player in said charity's poker tournament and saw the organizers gaming the system to their own profit, I wo

Very cool. Django and the associated stuff (south, virtualenv, etc) would be a nice addition.

True, true. I certainly have experienced a lot of what you describe, quitting my last job-type-job in December 2008 and promptly watching much of my savings evaporate. And my youngest child's congenital birth defect certainly wasn't part

I was really replying to the comment asking what will we do at 65 and lamenting the fact that older workers get pushed out of the industry. My point is to put your house in order financially so you can have the luxury of doing what you lov

Tangentially related, for similar reasons Paypal remains my payment processor. Lots of people have Paypal accounts and find it much more convenient to use it rather than haul out their credit card and hand key all of their address and paym

I believe the big advantage of Arduino is in the tooling and vast quantity of working code samples and projects you can find on the web. While the IDE has its quirks it is easy for newbs getting started, has decent samples bundled in, and

Testers are mostly a labor commodity. Seems like the body shop contracting agencies and big offshore firms (Wipro, TCS, etc.) have this market cornered. Any potential client who really values having a dedicated testing team will build up

Yes, absolutely, let's make it harder for kids to compete with us and put us out of work when we are in our 50's. I don't want them innovating and creating new open source libraries that make us more productive or open up new opportunities

I think the point is there is a huge gap between the supply and demand for programming education, particularly for ages from 8 to 18. It is so easy and rewarding to feed the spark of desire to learn and create among kids of this age range,

Linked Gamasutra article just copy/pastes selected content from the Econtalk podcast, adding no additional content or commentary. Nice reporting Frank Cifaldi! Original content: http://www.econtalk.org/archives/2013/02/varoufakis_on_v.ht

I have a hard enough time justifying upgrading Office. Versions n-1 are almost always "good enough" and I see no killer features that justify these new licensing restrictions that at a minimum double the cost for the same install base. I

Yes, the loss of the ability to install on a second portable device used by the same person who has the desktop license is a huge step backwards. They should cut the price in half to make up for this. As if that will happen.

There is no excuse why a movie ticket for a 7:00 PM showing should cost more than a movie ticket for the first showing of the day. If anything it should cost less because there are more people in attendance making the cost per attendee low

Why do you change the title when you post it here to be so provocative and arrogant? Linkbait? "Why you need..." just sets you up for a negative reaction such as "who are you to tell me what I need to do?" and "what makes you think this is
