I think this was the original idea that quickly mutated into "how do we stop the rampant account sharing enabled by this feature".

This is an amazingly refreshing view of programming. I am envious of anyone who can apply first hand their programming skills to the world around them. I can program, but real life and programming just seem to occupy entirely different real

Here's a solution: just come up with a name that better describes the award category. Maybe that way different categories of games won't be lumped together to compete against each other.

Musical notation is fine. But you have to go out of your way to encounter it. By comparison, written text is literally everywhere. I walked past a couple of pages of accumulated text just by walking to work and did not see a single musical

I had a similar realization about OpenGL a bunch of years ago: I don't need to draw a world of hierachical 3D objects, I just need to draw a list of sorted triangles. That flipped a switch in my head and made a bunch of optimizations v

I can't even open Reddit anymore, it just shows a text blob with something about the user agent (which hasn't changed). I wouldn't even care but much of my first page of search results is full of Reddit links.

Do any of those actually run on "bare metal"? Seems that term is used (confusingly) as an euphemism for "operating system".

If you rely on common game libraries and widely supported web APIs, you can get quite far with C. Here's an OpenGL and SDL2 game running in the browser that I ported (and also maintain): https://play.neverball.org/ Get

I've been doing that as well as beatboxing (inward bass, subharmonics). The baby is seemingly trying to replicate some of it, but obviously they're not word-like sounds.

Theres is literally no further context or data points here, just the line "driving traffic through Google" repeated a couple of times.

The article goes in the right direction, but from a weird starting point. Saying things like "a branch contains the entire history" just adds to the general confusion about Git. Git does not have branches. Sure, Git emulates branc

I'm willing to pay, but what they're asking is too much, given that it's per account (FB and IG accounts are apparently not the same account). It seems very intentional, too. Even the way the in-app texts are constructed, it

I'm sorry, but we've had the other option for hundreds of years. Playing an instrument or using your voice to make pleasant sounds isn't rocket science.

This is void of content. "You might still see products in the video" doesn't really need an article.

A completely opposite experience. Been using it for years, and (when it doesn't lag) it gets the right match almost every time.

What you see on mastodon.social is the result of Elon Musk buying Twitter. One and a half years ago it looked very different from the current mix of US politics and social issues, with more European-oriented, non-English content. As a Europ

I ported Neverball, a game written in C, to WASM ( https://play.neverball.org/ ). It requires a browser to run, meaning it runs on any device that has a browser. That is superior to native in my eyes.

Wish more was said about how this makes the author's life better. Seems to me that most websites would break in small ways without JS, which would be really annoying to deal with.

Worth pointing out that modern social media is built on maximum-engagement, more-of-the-same recommendation algorithms that are a perfect fit for spreading these kinds of content. If you're unaware of this and interact with it, you

Glad to see Postman mentioned. It has probably the most counterintuitive UI I've ever used. Sometimes I procrastinate by counting how many hamburger menus I can see simultaneously in Postman.

Right? This whole affair seems very disproportionate. My bank recently announced a redesign of their online web app, and one of the major points they said they focused on was ... dark mode? Really?

Firefox Android on a Samsung S7. Varying loading times is obviously completely normal. I was just hoping to see an optimization deep dive based on the title here.
