This is very cool, but doesn't actually load in two seconds. I would have been really impressed if that part was legitimately true.

Artificial general intelligence seemed way cooler before the current LLM wave. Now it just seems dangerous. What's the point? What's the goal here? Edit: genuinely curious about examples of applications, which are absent from the

This is a bit out of left field, but if you're a web developer you can use Browsersync to control a web page across multiple browsers (even on different devices). So really you "just" need a good PDF viewer on that web page.

I honestly believe that proliferation of permissive non-copyleft open source licensing is what has harmed the free software movement the most. GPL used to be standard, but it's long been overtaken by short, easy to understand, do what

The premise of the article linked from this one is "Wayland breaks your bad software", which is a funny way of saying it's incompatible with a bunch of irreplaceable software that people still use.

To be fair my reference browser is Firefox, WebGL is a fair bit slower there. What blows my mind with this technology is little things: porting the game to the browser gave me a half-working mobile port basically for free (had to implement

I feel the history explanation isn't that great, making it look like the modern web development simply reinvented PHP. There are nuances to every technology that make developers choose it over another. Still looking for a good blog pos

A couple of years back I also wrote a pure WebGL renderer for Neverball levels [1]. No physics, no translation to WebGL, just the 3D renderer part in direct WebGL. It also has a surprisingly low performance ceiling. I'd say I managed e

That expectation is off by nearly a decade. WASM games in terms of performance are closer to 2000 than 2010. Here's an open source indie game from 2003 that I ported to WASM [1]. It struggles to hit 60 FPS on devices that were released

As a European having watched many house framer videos on Youtube, the imperial system of in/ft actually somehow makes sense there. As far math, it's pretty annoying, but as far as communicating ratios or dividing distances into ha

This comment reminded me that I did something similar as a kid in the 90s. I recorded TV shows as audio onto cassette tapes and listened to them before bed to make falling asleep less boring. In retrospect, the coolest thing about it was th

That's literally the first thing I noticed in the screenshot on the website. Spacing in the UI is very inconsistent, almost the polar opposite of macOS aesthetic.

Hard disagree. As a web developer who has to work with the CSS monster daily, having to memorize property names between CSS versions would be a particular kind of nightmare.

At least in web development rolling your own is usually the pragmatic choice. It won't break opaquely upon update, you can fix it yourself, it only does what you need. Library and platform updates have a much higher chance of breaking

For what it's worth, I've found that I almost always want to put the label tag after the input tag. That enables me to select and style the label based on the input state via CSS pseudoclasses.

In musical terms this is called audiation - the ability to imagine sound. From my experience, this can be acquired indirectly over time through regular vocal and musical practice (e.g., singing in a local choir or practicing an instrument).

I recently learned about "balancing" your shoelace knots and relearned how to tie my shoes (in my thirties). This describes the same principle, but doesn't call it balancing.
