Some people model the distribution of p-values as a mixture of two distributions - called the BUM model. The false positives are modelled as a uniform distribution. I think that this is the equivalent of the "random hypothesis" in

I think that Go does not lock the version numbers by default. However, you have to sync manually - its not like Maven that attempts to download the internet on every build.

And before you object based on efficiency -- trains aren't that much more efficient than flying. Below is a link to a PDF with more information about energy efficiency: http://adl.stanford.edu/aa260/Lecture_Notes

I think that the method you use is "Token Threaded Code" [1]. It's one good way of implementing a VM. I only added the blog link in case you were interested in extending the VM to use Just In Time compiling. Using a JIT wou

The code looks really clean to me. If you feel the urge to convert the VM to a JIT, rather than calling function pointers for each instruction, you might find this blog post useful: http://blog.reverberate.org/2012/12

I thought that the big advantage of MessagePack was that it was smaller and quicker over networks. Network effects are the biggest cause of delay when transferring data to remote machines and are much bigger than serialization performance.

For prototyping could you use malloc without free? I have been rolling my own GC and wish that I would have left this until later.

I would disagree with the phrase "effectively random" because its too general. Chaotic attractors survive the presence of noise and Chaotic systems look nothing like random data when viewed in a certain way. Another way of looking

I worked on a project that used the Google C++ Style guide for a while - I found it quite painless and mostly sensible. Conversative style guides are useful when you are coding in a team of people with various abilities.

I can't think of a single plausible situation in which git is not superior in every way to all the other version control systems. I don't want to get into an emacs/vi style flamewar but other VCSs have their own advantages,

This is true for PC's and servers. However, Java startup time on the Raspberry Pi is horrific. I recently saw a small server go from 3 seconds startup on my PC to 4 minutes on a Raspberry.

There have been self-driving trains for some time now (Nuremberg, London Docklands). There are more people to be responsible for on a train and I do not see why a bus would be a special case.

It would make a nice cross between a dedicated server and a virtual server. You could rent out 20+ "nodes" where each node is a dedicated computer with low performance.
