The "intuitive" argument comes up a lot in relation to units of measure, and it just makes me wonder how people can have such lack of self awareness. Anything that is familiar is easier, that tells you nothing about the thing itse

This is one of the best essays I've ever read. I was surprised to find it was never discussed on HN (plenty of submissions, no traction). So go read it HNers.

After the entirely justified public shaming of China when they did this I though, hey at least this disaster will serve as an example and no one will be so stupid as to do it again. Then India proves they are so stupid as to do it again. I

In fact it doesn't have a thesis, as far as the question "why does stoicism appeal to modern rich and powerful". The partial quote you posted is part of a musing around that topic, but it only takes reading that paragraph in

That is not the thesis of the article, and misrepresenting it that way is doing it a diservice. It would be better to "wade" through it in full than to mis-sumarize it.

Interesting article. I'd like to encourage people to read more stuff from her blog, it's absolutely excellent. I'm currently reading this piece[0] (teaser quote: "then, in the early seventeenth century, Francis Bacon inv

Seems like you should be using a content management system (CMS) instead of coding a website. I'd recommend a hosted service[0] so you don't have to manage updates and security yourself. [0] Examples: https://wordpress.

In addition to the solutions in the sibling comments, let me offer my favorite one: a simple bookmarklet that zaps all sticky elements on the page. Works wonders in Medium and a lot of other sites. javascript:(function()%7B(function%2

Git won though. I'm not especially a fan of git, but at this point advocating for mercurial is tilting at windmills.

If you look closely at the flowchart in the article, that won't stop security updates from downloading. I found that surprising.

You can use it right now, it's just disabled by default. Go to about:config and set media.autoplay.default to 1 or 2.

You're missing the point. This is the absolute ceiling of success that can be reached in Spotify. If the payout of that is 90k, what do you thing the payout of the typical artist is on Spotify?

Second the usefulness of rename, but beware there is some confusion about the name of the tool. It's called 'rename' on debian and derivatives and 'prename' on RH and derivatives.
