Not wanting to defend the likes of Google, but search engines link the original source (in contrast to LLMs). Their basic idea is to direct people to your content. There are countries where content companies didn't like what Google doe

That's great. But Google Maps Street View (-> GeoGuessr) is still a slideshow under Firefox (Linux) for me. (I tried all the things under about:config) Really hope that gets fixed some day. On that day I will switch back. Really mis

I want to output a lot of numbers (double) and be sure they are in "C" locale (generating JSON output). So it's actually fprintf_l. I can set/restore LC_NUMERIC in a wrapped function, but having a _l version would be nic

What I'd like to have is snprintf_l(). It's not standard, but it's available in FreeBSD, macOS, and Windows (as _snprintf_l()). Just not in glibc (and probably musl).

I remember a classic Amiga OS styled website that had lots of chiptunes to download. It really worked like the Amiga OS, with movable, resizable windows and a file explorer etc. Can't remember the URL. I wanna say chiptune.net, but app

Hm, most songs from Unreal 1 have actually 2 tracks in them: One calm one, and one when fighting happens. But that player seems to only play the first one. VLC (and back in the days Winamp) plays both, one after the other. Would be cool if

Anyone can recommend anything to listen to on there? I already know (since back then) and still regularly listen to: - Unreal 1 - Megaman (1-7, X, ...) - Super Metroid - Chrono Trigger - Zelda Preferring actual chiptunes over MIDI.

Never had any problem with systemd, but I did have problems with PulseAudio — the high latency audio server. (These days it seems to work good enough, still looking forward to PipeWire.)

Weirdly I checked his channel yesterday (for the first time since many months) if there happens to be a new video! Didn't know that there will be a new Musescore release.

Maybe 405 or 406 then? I mean, sure it's not right either, but better than 418? (I'd say go with 404.)

Browsers, proxies and crawlers might remember 404 longer than any status code that has "temporary" in it. See also the various permanent and temporary redirect status codes.

Yeah, I didn't think of testing and deployment pipelines. Where I work we use GitHub actions for testing, but not for deployment. And our projects are small enough that I can easily run the tests in docker on my development PC.

It's git, so everyone has a copy of the repo. You can continue collaborating with send-email or some random SSH server. That's the beauty of a DSCM.

I don't know, I don't use Google Earth (the Qt desktop application). I only use Google Maps and mostly through GeoTastic.

In Java you can only close over final variables, so you can't close over the loop variable at all. (Unless that changed since last time I used Java, which - granted - was a long time ago.)

I don't actually use Go, but I have used many other languages where it is like the old behavior. I learned once that I have to build the closure correctly to get the value I want and know now to do it. Don't have any statistics on

Wait is this now heap allocating a value in every iteration of every loop? I hope that allocation is optimized out in every case where there isn't a closure over the loop variable?

I've seen code like this (3 letter macros for every one and a half(!) syntax construct, all macros starting in Q, seemingly random indentation). I do not understand why the developer did that or why the company let him. Just that at th

It looks amazing, but I couldn't get it to run. Binary was linked to a lib that's not on my system, and when compiled from source it just crashes with a bad cast.

I remember a time when "crypto" just meant cryptography. Heck, the cryptography module in e.g. NodeJS is called "crypto", the Web Crypto API has nothing to do with cryptocurrencies or NFTs, etc.
