I think a lot could be fixed with functions that don't access global state, but get that state as an additional parameter. E.g. I would really like `snprintf_l()`/`fprintf_l()` to be supported by glibc. It is supported by FreeBSD,

Yeah, I run my monitor at 20% brightness, unless for watching movies. Then I change to 50%. Wish it would had presets. Anyway, I prefer the ever so slightly beige Interface of Windows 2000. Same contrast and GUI esthetics, but less drab gre

The biggest downside of Windows GUIs was that it all was tiny non-resizable dialogs and non-copyable text labels. Did they fix this? I don't use Windows anymore.

Small side note: I think for GUI screenshots (especially of older software) you should add this CSS: img { image-rendering: pixelated; } On my 4k monitor it all looks blurred. (I have a bookmarklet that fixes it.)

Also: footer.footer { display: none; } Or remove that element. It is empty and just adds an awkward gray area when you scroll to the bottom.

How does list comprehension change anything here? This has the same problem: add_n = [lambda x: x + n for n in range(10)] add_n[9](10) # 19 add_n[0](10) # 19

Oh yes, and I'd like to have hex-float for easy exact floating point representation, but not if JavaScript doesn't support it because then it wouldn't be a JavaScript subset anymore.

It doesn't run actual code. The function call syntax is just for extensions like `!vault` in Ansible YAML. And yes, it is supposed to be a new JavaScript subset and JSON superset.

JSON also has one nameless object literal. That literal is the payload. The assignments before are just things that can be referenced in the actual payload. Yes, its like a big comma expression. The idea is that it is a syntactically correc

Probably a hot take, but I'd like an extended JSON syntax where you can do this: foo = "something to use later", bar = { "a": 1.1, "b": 2.2 }, baz = [ 1n, 999999999999n, ], /* commen

That's not how it works, sadly. Oil and coal got created in a time where there where no microbes that could break down trees, so dead trees just built up over millions of years and when buried slowly turned into oil and coal. Nowadays

And then you need to pump these giant amounts of CO2 sludge (or whatever form it will have) back where you drilled oil out of, hoping it will stay down. That will cost a lot of energy too.

There are a few nice things in that, like (x, y) IN (SELECT ...), ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY ...), and (start1, end1) OVERLAPS (start2, end2).

If you need to use prettiefy to even have a chance to understand the code, is it still source code? About the byte code: You mean wasm? (Guess that's what you're alluding to.)

Interesting. Since the list is sorted, is the insertion still a linear search (O(N)) or now a binary search (O(log(N))? Or did I misunderstand something? Also, why is it not a hash table (almost O(1))?

Yeah, this is what I saw in some example code. Also you don't need the (void*), at least not with clang or GCC trunk on compiler explorer: https://godbolt.org/z/a8rP91dKr

I agree. I just wish there would be a browser setting where you could say "only ever functional cookies" and never see a cookie banner again. But I guess that would need to be forced on companies via another legislation. The free

In the EU there even is a "3D trademark". One famous example is the LEGO mini figure, which LEGO uses to sue anyone that tries to sell any remotely similar LEGO compatible mini figure.

I over-simplified. It's about Google News. The news paper companies managed to lobby for a law that requires search providers to pay money to the news papers they link to (or for the tiny excerpt they show in the search results). So Go
