In OS X it was usual to have your bundle explode when compiling Nokogori due to som libXml dependency, circa 2010.

Crystal was overall a pleasant experience, which I cannot say for Rust. Although it was probably my fault: 1) for being "rusty" as a programmer myself, and 2) having zero experience with Rust. I want to believe that once you ge

What was cool was Rails, IMHO, and Ruby was the surprise inside it. I've had my own personal Advent of Code these holidays, coding a small API for a personal need. Ruby (Sinatra) took one morning to full deployment in Heroku. Then I

I used to joke about Nokogiri dependency troubles for many years, but to be honest the experience in macOS lately has been straightforward for me.

There’s a whole industry of devices around that: of course the iPad, but there’s the reMarkable, AirNote, Boox Note… I carry my own Smallish notebook and pen but the convenience of having everything already digitized and available everywher

Of course it will come back, you just need to wait until dynamic typing becomes fashionable again. Development time is still more important than operational speed.

Looking at the demand side, I feel that there are not that many new jobs created, not even by a long shot. So mostly everyone is shuffling their chairs, and getting a raise. Employers lose here. If I am right, I'm curious to know wh

Norton was a legendary figure to me. When I was starting my University studies some of my friends would say things like "Peter Norton is the best programmer in the world, and he codes in C". I had seen Norton Disk Doctor magica

I believe Rails 7 value proposal ("The one man framework") is designed to lure in people with SPA fatigue. And hell, Rails and Ruby are still fun.

This is a classic 1958 spanish film. 30 glorious seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-w7JCTOpwU "Do I owe you something?" "That's 100 pesetas". "100 pesetas just for tightening a screw?

Microservices is kind of a superpower that allows you to choose where you want your complexity to be. You are supposed to start with something simple, so the microservices decision needs to come in later. Not starting full in with microser

I don't really agree with the statement that they are trying to fix human behaviour. There's nothing wrong with Vivaldi stating "this is my house, these are my rules", they are not the government.

Turbo Vision libraries for DOS where an absolute delight. And I clearly remember a Turbo Pascal demo with a breakout game clone that was a lesson on object oriented development.

Before Django there was Zope in python-land. I don't think I overstate the relevance of what Django did by saying that Django almost single handledy advanced the state-of-the-art of web deployment in Python forward a decade.

Don't think that's the use case. how would AWS deploy a base station to my home? But you have a real point, and AWS already solved that with the 3G enabled Kindles by having carrier agreements. Why not doing that with Smart TVs?
