Ok, but CO2 is another output of human activities, can we increase energy expenditure while lowering CO2 emissions? (it’s not a rethoric question, I don’t know the answer)

Maybe we are far from exceeding the limits of available energy regarding the inputs of the processes, but our most immediate problem is the output energy, which is released as heath in the environment.

Yes, there are ofc different byproducts (knowledge, health, leisure, fulfillment of needs, …) but, at the end of the chain, a dollar spent is ultimately converted into energy/resource consumption, no?

A random example: desktop Spaces has been arbitrarily limited to a single row of max 9 desktops (with Lion I believe). Before you could arrange the desktops in a matrix (up to 16 desktops IIRC). Also the removal of RSS support, X11, emacs.

I agree. SvelteKit should not be advertised as the standard way to use svelte imho. Fortunately it’s not necessary to use svelte. I’ve some quite complex apps built using svelte, all without SvelteKit/sapper (I am of the “explicit is b

The new Evernote desktop app is terrible. It’s slow as molasses (Electron?), search is not reliable, and without connectivity it doesn’t work (you don’t see your local notes). Adding notes via the dedicated email address doesn’t work anymor

The OP didn’t advocate for dumbing down the project, it advocated for writing understandable code and avoiding “clever” code where possible. More often than not “clever” code is all about “local cleverness”, and it’s entirely avoidable. Int

In my view it’s because democracy is somewhat orthogonal to capitalism or collectivism, and masses are easily controlled anyway (they can live with the illusion of being in control). A democracy loses something central to the concept when a

I agree on everything you said, but I have the suspect that if we untapped an unlimited energy source that would quickly put a (near) expiration date on our civilization, and maybe on our planet. Scarcity is necessary to maintain balance.

In Italy copay is very limited, almost symbolic, even for those in the highest income brackets. As you point out wait times can be (very) long for exams (at least when there is no indication of urgency), but for serious/complex procedu

Yes, in my view Canonical betting on flutter is almost a testament to flutter doom. Choosing flutter is not the right choice anyway: it’s a lot more limited compared to Qt, it requires a language which is not used anywhere else, it’s slow a

Yes, but mega-corps are exploiting free software and killing it in a way. Personally I believe it would be in everyone’s interest to fight back. Maybe we could have “human-scale free software” alongside the traditional model.

Social media platforms are powerful, not critical. If all the platforms disappeared tomorrow, our lives would not be disrupted (personally I think we’d be even healthier, but that’s a personal view). This doesn’t change the fact that these
