Exactly. I didn't think that giving every dollar a job would be that important, since I was good at saving even with Mint, but it makes the mental tradeoffs so clear. Love it.

I didn't understand this until after I switched to YNAB, but Mint wasn't future-focued enough for me. I've always been good about saving and tracking my spending, but with the way I used Mint, I usually only focused on the cu

I also switched from Mint to YNAB a few years ago, and YNAB is head and shoulders better than Mint. I've always had good finances / self discipline and didn't think I needed YNAB, but it's been way better than Mint for m

I think the opposite concept, "reverse ETL," is actually more popular. You put everything into your data warehouse and then pump whatever you need out from there.

This is nice, but I wish there were smaller/more portable options. I'd love a 12-13" chromebook with a thin body design that's closer to 2 lbs.

I think they get some type of pension/benefits, similar to how you can retire from the US military after 20 years of service, which is a more extreme case. (If you enlist at age 18, you can be fully retired at 38)

That's a good question. If you need to ETL to a traditional data warehouse in order to do analytics, wouldn't you need an ORM, which is exactly what they're trying to avoid? (Also note that it's usually ELT instead of ET

There's a setting called "Require Attention for Face ID" that you can try turning off. Your phone will be a little less secure that way, but it might help.

A Druze person I know explained it to me effectively as a "you missed your chance" situation. To them, everyone had a chance to convert a long time ago (Wikipedia says it was in the year 1017), and if your family didn't conve

The even crazier part is maternity leave, or the lack of it. The US government requires that women who have been at their job for more than one year get 12 weeks of unpaid time off. But many people can't afford to not be paid, so they

I don't know Spanish. I would say: "We got out of the car and went inside" and "I got in line to pay for groceries" and "He hosted/held a party to celebrate his son's birthday."

As I said in a different comment to another user, compassion fatigue is real. Maybe this makes me cold-hearted, but where I live, sympathy, support, and assistance enable these people to voluntarily continue their lifestyle. 90+% of the hom

Compassion fatigue is real. Have you lived near a large homeless encampment? Not one guy with a sleeping bag, but the type of big encampment with 20+ people? We're talking multiple stabbings/shootings per month, people shitting on

I agree 100%. I've learned many useful things that are hard to learn elsewhere, like personal finance and cooking. Sure, I can look up recipes pretty much anywhere on the internet, but the community for cooking tips has been awesome. (

I agree. And in the US, a 12oz latte is considered the default/healthy option! Many people order 16 or even 20oz lattes with added syrups/sugar. At Starbucks, a caramel macchiato is one of the most popular drinks. It has 250 calor

I agree with you that eating out is tricky while on a diet, but 150 calories for a meal is extremely restrictive even if you're on a diet. If you follow a more standard low-calorie diet and eat ~400-500 calories per meal, you can often

In the 1960s, the average dinner plate size was 8.5". Today in the US, it's 12". Same thing with glasses and cups; most mugs in the US today are closer to 14-16oz, not 8oz. There is a similar comparison with standard coffee d

I think the idea is that there are diminishing returns. 1 versus 2 hours of exercise per week is significant, but 21 vs 22 hours of exercise per week is not.

Other countries also use different systems. For instance, Israel traditionally only has two ranks: "Professor" which is someone who has tenure, and "Lecturer" which is anyone without tenure.
