The most useful modern-day knowledge you could gain from this is here: http://www.sosmath.com/calculus/diff/der07/der07.html (Newton-Raphson Method)

Discouraging people from having confidence in themselves (even when that confidence is unrealistic) is one of the biggest tragedies brought about by modern-day mediums such as HN et al. I'd rather strike out a dozen times than watch from th

Probably off topic, but hooey on that: If you want to play an absolute gem of a game, go grab Cave Story. It's free, and it's "fun", in the most distilled form. http://www.cavestory.org/ It's one of those games that makes you wish you cou

Really? Interesting. I haven't kept up. That's... Well, that's ironic. I wonder why he decided to pursue gamedev with more passion than rocketdev?

Minor (very minor) quibble: You said "since Wolf3D"; but "since Commander Keen" would be more accurate. Keen was possible due to a stroke of genius, letting him trick the monitor itself into becoming part of his "adaptive tile refresh" syst

DaVinci tackled a dozen fantasies pretty much simultaneously. I think you're more capable than you give yourself credit for.

The advice is: "just make something"; so of course your question is then, "what shall I make?" http://shawnpresser.blogspot.com/2010/10/how-to-become-game-... ^ That's an ordered list of projects, sorted by increasing difficulty. Basical

> I subscribe to the garbage man theory of value, do the jobs no one else wants to do but are essential to society. Avoid any job that seems glamouros it usually pays like crap. As a (former?) game developer, I can say this is spot-on.

Even if it wasn't -- honest question -- why would it be necessary to "license" their music? This is a work of art. It's not for any kind of profit.

So... I just read http://www.isb.vt.edu/news/2008/artspdf/feb0803.pdf ... the "meat of things", as you put it. It describes a farmer who knowingly violated an agreement he signed with Monsanto; then Monsanto suing said farmer, and winning

Ahh, good old St Louis, Missouri, where everyone has so much money that they're willing to invest in pretty much any random jibber-jabber. Ha. There I go again, pretending I live around stuff-that-matters. Never come here.

That's hilarious. I wonder why "long long" is 40 bits? And... A non-function-pointer is "16 or 23" bits? Nice. What's the proper scenario to use "long" instead of "int"? I've never bothered to use it.

These are actually fantastic ZBrush patterns, as well. I just wish they weren't so... well, subtle. On my laptop, "Dark Leather" and "Triangles" both look exactly the same: a black rectangle.
