The file sharing part of this project made me think of RetroShare ( https://retroshare.cc/ ). Too bad this project never really had traction. It was really file sharing + social network in a truly decentralized fashion.

Kate's Git plugin is the only graphical Git interface I actually enjoyed using. Otherwise I'm always using Git from the command line.

My personal method is to type "ffmpeg" and then hit Ctrl+R repeatedly until I make it to the last time I used it to do what I want to do again now, and then adapt the command from history to my current needs. It's not very ef

This is actually a good thing, for Mastodon. When you actually use Mastodon, those automatic crossposts are not cool: for example mentions are broken even if the concerned people are also on Mastodon and most of the time the authors of thes

I never said you had to trust the source, I said that the necessary level of trust is the same (and it is indeed zero). So yes, PoW can give you confidence, but it is unnecessary in practice. Well, let's say it's an additional sec

Bootstrapping a client requires the same trust in the source from which you're getting the blockchain history, with or without PoW. PoW doesn't play a role here. But you're right that immutability does. What can give you conf

Yes, proof of work is a consensus mechanism. But modifying a block discreetly would require a full collision on its hash. Even without proof of work. This is what makes a blockchain immutable, and is not a specificity of blockchains, nor of

I know all this, thanks. Preventing double spending is a feature of the consensus mechanism indeed, if it is augmented with other rules (longest chain wins), but immutability does not rely on it, as I said in the comment you are replying

Sorry, but proof of work is not an immutability mechanism. Proof of work is only a way to randomly and incontestably select a participant when participation is open and no one is trustable, i.e., a consensus mechanism (which, once augmented
