I see it confirms what I wrote state of art is “not using tessaract anymore” and I think bunch of commercial solutions are stuck with tessaract.

I liked the article, it is really in depth. Thing is I am taking the opposite approach because author has different goals. Author gets to be VP of engineering on company that has multiple product teams and he gets to sit at "the table&

Well I think that’s the point people think if we run VPS and not containers or some app fabric, serverless so PaaS we are “not using real cloud”. But we use IaaS and it is also proper cloud.

As mentioned multiple times in other comments and places people think that doing what Google or FB is doing should be what everyone else is doing. We are running modest operations on European VPS provider where I work and whenever we get a

Applying security patches on time is not much problem. Ones that you need to apply ASAP are rare and for DB engine you never put it on public access, most of the time exploit is not disclosed publicly and PoC code is not available for patc

Kind of find it annoying people down vote things they disagree with. I down vote only things I find that should not be posted like as-persona or something I really know is just wrong. Of course there is a bit of blur between something bein

Like the thought. Fun part is that most likely being Wóz would get you to be hired or partnered with because guys running the show think they all are Jobs.

It is always surprising how people misinterpret things you wrote. Lots of time people reply to an emotion, “not” jokes don’t work well in writing. If you write first sentence to negate it in the paragraph breaks really fast.

That’s something I relate too as well. I like working on different abstraction levels throughout the system. Only way to cope was to let go things and pick my battles. I always think about the joke where a sailor goes down to the dock and a

If you fire people for stuff they didn’t maliciously introduced you will end up with no people to work with. Imagine jailing doctors for every patient that died you would be out of doctors quite soon.

I can say that in the article author was setting up own mail server and domain. To have copy of all your mails locally or to back them up to NAS, having desktop mail client is much easier way than setting up mail server.

I don't see it as egalitarian — you need 80% people doing ground work so that you can send couple guys to the moon. Without those 80% digging the trenches you have nothing.

You don’t have to have a single email address. I have plenty and various providers. Then use mail client instead of webmail. I use thunderbird and have multiple boxes I just backup Thunderbird profiles folder to my NAS.

When I was 20yo I thought cars are cool and having car that would stand out would be great. Closing in on 40 I couldn’t care less. If it is safe, doesn’t break down, gets me to places I am happy. I have my own ways to express myself as a pe
