Advanced or centaur chess (where the team consists of a man plus a computer chess engine) tournaments routinely consist of 90% draws, and the best players are estimated at 3600 ELO, very close to the theoretical perfect play [1]. You may fi

FWIW, you can bypass the Economist's paywall by reloading the page and then quickly stopping the reload. The HTML loads but not the js that implements the paywall. Hope I don't jinx it!

Students can design, build, validate and launch their own cubesats through special programmmes. Even cooler if one of them launches a flying data center. Limited bandwidth would be an issue.

That's so easy it's done in embedded programming university classes. All VW did was turn on the 'cheat emissions' flag in the ECU supplied by Bosch. Don't get me wrong, it's still cheating.

Auto-starting trailers for adult movies like Predator is a horrible experience if you have kids in the house. Who thought that's a good idea should never be allowed to make decisions. Thanks for the idea to uninstall that app.

This is basically the biggest research question the field of ML has. How to express useful prior knowledge and how to embed it in a network ? The current answer mostly is "network architectures can express priors". That's wha

The app programmer is definitely considered as an user (or operator) of cryptography libraries. That's what the "user misuse-resistant" best practice is all about: designing tools robust to wider levels of user expertise.

There is no GDPR compliance requirement for personal, non-commercial, side-projects. You can gather PPI on all the people in the world and use it on your own for non-commercial purposes and GDPR has nothing to say about that.

You should be aware that echo-state networks are considered special cases of recurrent networks. One variant of recurrent networks, LTSMs, dominates state of the art on a wide variety of problems. They're expensive to train, in computi

This already happens with many things. Cheaper, non-EU-standard compliant electric goods are sold in Africa. Cheaper, sulfur-ladden diesel fuel is sold there too.

It's helpful to see a thing like career choice like the market participation that it is, and see market participants, in a sort of game theory view, as participants in an ongoing implicit negotiation.
