ChatGPT and its relatives are very very impressive on first impressions, but I've been using ChatGPT-3 and now 4 heavily every day since they became available to individuals and once you start using them this much it becomes very clear

"Lancet retracts 12-year-old article linking autism to MMR vaccines" < https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2831678/ >. Even the Lancet makes big mistakes sometimes.

Seems like many superchargers are already overcrowded with Teslas alone in my experience, so this will reduce the appeal of Teslas. The biggest advantage Tesla has and the main reason I chose it is due to its dedicated charging infrastructu

I thought the "navigate on autopilot" feature was basically FSD but on highway only. But no, it just suggests lane changes that are dumb most of the time. Yes, I can only blame myself really, but I can't believe they would ev

A bit tangential but I just got a Tesla Model 3 and paid $6,000 extra for “enhanced autopilot” buying into all the marketing about it, and its one of the biggest regrets of my life and makes me unable to appreciate an otherwise great car. I

After some deliberation, I think this mostly makes sense and shouldn’t be upsetting. If someone discovers/invents something important but isn’t capable of communicating that new thing for whatever reason then no one else can benefit fr

I see it noted that this could speed up machine learning inference, but any hope of this being extended to also speed up training? I imagine with 100x speedup in matmuls, albeit approximate matmuls, one could plausibly train on a CPU.

I used to be against standardized tests, but I grew up as a low-income minority in a single-parent household and I ended up getting into good schools pretty much only due to my high test scores, which has been a life changer. Other than tes

But Lean4 is in alpha stage and there are no official stable releases yet, of course it's not well-documented nor polished yet. Lean3 works perfectly well and has everything you need.

I think it all comes down to the aesthetics and user experience. The Lean webpage is inviting and modern. Coq’s website looks like it’s from the 90s. Lean’s integration with Visual Studio Code is clean and user friendly. The language itself

I recently started a relatively complex machine learning project in Julia 1.6 and it’s been great so far. Occasionally the youthful nature of the language creates minor issues (eg fewer answers on stackoverflow) but overall it really has d

I used to share the concern with overpopulation, but birth rates are often below replacement in developed countries. I now worry more about the long-term survival of humanity than I do about overpopulation. I expect all countries to eventua

Where is cost of living in this analysis? In the Midwest you can still have a nice quality of life with any decent job. Yeah sure, you can’t have such things in SF, NY or LA like maybe you could in the 70s.

Thats not true… in Lean you can restrict yourself to constructive math if you want to for some reason. Just that most actual mathematicians don’t.

I can see how it could be interpreted that way. My first reaction was (if the claim is true) that must be cultural memes as the cause, as a genetic cause automatically was implausible to me.
