I would honestly like to know what’s the point of these comments. This person offers a free, open-source and cross-platform offline app in the most cost-effective way as a single developer not willing to make money and then one person comes

I wrote a bit about it here in HN [1]. Not everyone is the same but for me quitting gave me back the chilled mood and personality I had before starting with coffee several years ago. I didn't realize coffee took it away until kind of r

Exercise and sauna are truly essential for me and I happen to live in Finland so the latter is very accessible. I notice how my mood goes down quickly (specially approaching winter) if I don't exercise even if other parts of my life ar

I've been living in Finland for close to 10 years and I'm from Spain. Came to study an university degree and stayed after that. If you're pretty young and you work in FAANG then stay where you are and save money. When you get

I read "How to change your mind" last year and I tried this. It worked very well. As many studies indicate, it temporarily disables/decreases DMN (among other effects) which is exactly what a depressed person would need: brea

It happens a lot in Spain as well. I met many people (always men) who had to deal with similar situations. Unfortunately in some countries, forming a family can really go south for the guys if the woman decides so.

This aligns with my anecdotal experience. I started with PHP more than a decade ago and every company I've worked for (very large, large and medium-sized) has migrated away from it or never touched it. I don't see any sort of rena

Fasting might be a bit risky at advanced ages but reducing carbs (not only sugar) to the minimum for quite a while and then being very conscious about the intake in the future is the key to success. Also you'll lose some weight which c

Yeah, it's a big difference. I hope it's just for views and not that the author sees it that way. Money that's not in your hands isn't yours and may never be yours.

I have been reading the same prediction my whole life so I'm sure this will be a boom at some point by pure chance. But I tend to think that those solutions already exists, and the typical tool coming to mind is WordPress. You literall

Your example is similar to a WordPress developer saying they adopted modern PHP - sure, they were on PHP already. But at least Vimeo still wanted to stick to PHP so that's one positive point.

Compared to WhatsApp, they do have access to all messages from every person (except for the few people using secret chats) and group so I'd not be very surprised if they started to mine that data somehow if they really want the money.

Maybe I'm not in the right circles but I see absolutely no renewed interest towards PHP. Is there any reason to believe that? Honest question - PHP was my first language (or second if you want to consider mIRC scripting) and I have not

No, not really. If I want to donate to achieve a specific technical goal (e.g. documentation about something completely apolitical) and nothing else that's not a political stance.

There are NGOs that don't take public stances, you just have to look out for them (depends on your country as well I guess?). It's fine if you want to accept everyone is corrupt and will have hidden causes ("that's naive

With restrictions I meant if you want to distribute your apps in iOS, you must use the App Store and pay your fee (the yearly one as well). What other option do you have right now? None, and that's why devs are there right now .
