I founded and built a company based on a threaded, asynchronous multimedia forum system about 12 years ago. It supported any type of content that was 'V.I.T.A.L' : Video, Images, Text, Audio and Links. (I sadly had to resign from

I never had a 'Speccy'. Some old friends of mine wrote a song ages ago about the effect those machines had on us all, called "Hey Hey 16k" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts96J7HhO28

I had one of these at age 10. I still have it (at age 50) and it still works. Also the printer and a roll of paper. Whenever people ask me what my earliest memory is, I say the 16k RAM Pack. :)

The Sinclair ZX81 was also my first computer. (At school - at 10/11 years old, we had a Research Machines 380Z to play Sink The Bismark and Lunar Lander on a green screen. ;) ) Dad used to work at IBM. I've always thought of mysel

Surprised to not see the word "collate" or "collation" in this article, as they relate to that specific way of printing pages in the right side/ordering for what would become a 'book(let)'.

You should create a new blog category, containing only posts with titles up to 280 characters and just post the tidbits you'd otherwise post to Twitter. Styled accordingly. If worthy enough, you could even share the link to any one of

My point was about the wording in the title here, before I clicked on to the article. It was by then reading said article when I saw it was about Go and not JS loading. :)

by ourcat 6y ago
Might be useful to mention '.. in Go' in the title. I clicked on it with the assumption it was about loading resources in `script` tags with the defer or async attributes.

That's right. `em`, `rem` or `px`.

Useful for supporting `font-size` too, when inline with text (eg: for a label/button with an icon).

I've just learned over the years that it can be ultimately painful to rely on a third-party API. For all sorts of reasons. I used the words "If I can" on purpose. So yes, if I could, I would invent my own. And the peace of m

I agree. I'm less worried about abstractions than I am about dependencies. Which is why I use the foundational core knowledge to build my own solutions/modules. If I can.

I like the idea and applaud the effort. But surely it's just abstracting and implementing Javascript and thus obfuscating the knowledge of how that works. I see this happen too often. But then, some people know how to fix a car. Others

I wouldn't touch Ketamine. Too many bad side-effects. I've always had a high pain-threshold, but recently I've been 'beside myself' with pain (and a ringing in the ears, driving me mad at night, at times). Cannabino

Oddly, I've just found this concept to be analogous to many other 'ills' we face as humans. And not just the physical ones. Sometimes we just want to stop feeling pain. Sometimes we feel the need to try and stop the cause of

True. An analgesic drug will help cope with the pain caused by inflammation, but an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen will reduce the cause of the pain.

by ourcat 6y ago
You should take Ibuprofen for inflammation. Paracetamol is 'just' an analgesic.
