It’s FOSS :) other than that, Parallels only does virtualization and does it really well. UTM/QEMU does virtualization not-as-well-but-still-pretty-good in addition to emulation.

GPU support will probably come from implementing virgil3d in Metal.

Do you mean the emulation performance on M1? In my experience Windows XP is “usable” and Windows 7 feels like a 10 year old desktop running with a spinning drive.

Not yet but it’s planned for the future but after other higher priority features like USB, network bridging, and running from other paths.

macOS support isn’t perfect in QEMU but there’s been people who got it working: https://khronokernel.github.io/apple/silicon/2021/01/17/QEMU...

In theory virgil3d is the way to go as it has existing support in QEMU but there hasn’t been any work porting it to macOS/Metal as of this post.

Please try out the free download and only purchase it if you feel that you’ve already gotten value from it and would like to support the project. There is no difference in the binary for the free and paid version. It’s really hard to promis

Thanks but I think a port is virtually impossible as this was designed in SwiftUI and depends extensively on Apple APIs. GNOME Boxes is a good UI on Linux.

It (QEMU) actually uses the older https://developer.apple.com/documentation/hypervisor apis which has lower level control. QEMU provides device emulation and Hypervisor.framework provides access to CPU’s virtualization

Unpopular opinion but I like that if someone steals my MacBook, it’s impossible for them to factory reset it unless they get a BootROM exploit or even use it if they don’t have an early boot exploit. If there’s a way to “turn this off” then

If there’s anyone in the community I’d trust to do this, it would be marcan, who, among countless other things, got Linux working with GPU acceleration on the PS4. https://media.ccc.de/v/33c3-7946-console_hacking_2016

This is based off of Apple’s new Virtualization.framework introduced in Big Sur that lets you spin a Linux VM with half a dozen lines of code. The technology is still in its infancy (minimal emulated devices; not sure if there’s even a fram

This doesn’t solve the fundamental issue that the spam causes maintainers to have to spend brain cycles dealing with it. This “solution” still requires you to mark the PR as “invalid” manually. All it does is close the issue, add a comment,

What I learned in high school economics is that printing more money means greater inflation. Why isn’t this a problem? Or rather why aren’t people more scared about it being a problem?
