Here's two more: karmaplatform.com and kdcalc.com. This whole area of converting end user produced Excel solutions to scalable systems does seem very promising. But no one has nailed it yet, and I suspect there are at least two reason

Have you looked at spreadsheetweb.com and calcfusion.com? The former seems mature, with plenty of real paying customers. The latter is new, and I guess they're still working on getting traction.

So I guess the message is that because Mondo own the stack, they can integrate with 3rd parties eg TFL for missed checkout alerts. IMHO the real innovation will come when they can automate cash management. For instance, if I have a cash sur

No surprise to Hjalmar Schacht topping the IQ chart; he had a big hand in introducing the Rentenmark and arresting hyperinflation in the early 20s. Ten years later he innovated again with mefo bills to finance New Deal style economic expans

You need leverage. That's how you improved the initial offer on signing - because there was the implicit threat you'd not sign. To get another raise you need a credible alternative gig, and to be prepared to walk. You also need to

Sounds like mid 90s style C++ MFC GUI dev with widget IDs in the .h needing to line up with the .rc and all refs in the .cpp.

I spend about 40USD/month on spreadserve.com. ~10 for Web Hosting, ~10 for Atlassian Jira, and ~20 for Amazon AWS.

1. Start by personally introducing the new hire to all team members. This helps them feel comfortable approaching them later on to ask questions. 2. Ask them to write a "how to set up a new dev env" wiki page. The next new hire ca

Yes; back in '99 business didn't get it. I was working for Chase Manhattan in London at the time, and I remember my colleagues and I laughing when we heard senior management had asked if they could buy the internet!

Social software - FB, Twitter etc - didn't exist in 1999. Cluetrain was precient in describing the space they would occupy, and how important they would be for business.

Didn't realise it was a long standing graphics in joke. Reading this took me back 20 years to my time as an AVS/Express developer. AVS used the teapot as a standard object for testing geometry pipelines.

I lived in London for 12 years, and earned good money working in banking. I loved it for all the reasons you spelled out. But then the financial crisis happened, the banks started firing people, we got burgled three times in one year, and I

C++ MFC in Visual Studio 2003. No STL, no Boost, no templates. Like mid 90s C++ in fact, because the codebase dates back to the mid 90s. It's a contract gig on a legacy mortgage system.

Excellent point. I'm contracting on a banking project currently, enhancing a C++ MFC fat client application that dates back to 1995. The client org - a UK bank - runs it on Windows XP.
