Germany is hostile to entrepreneurs, class mobility and is backward when it comes to how their taxation, pension and healthcare systems are structured. Basically anyone who is not a typical cookie cutter employee will find it difficult in G

The biggest problem facing the front-end space today isn't so much of complexity of a particular library, rendering technique, or view/model architecture, but rather lots of bad ideas glued together, creating nightmare scenarios f

Agree with the freelancer suggestion. Freelancers generally have a more equal business relationship with clients and clients will respect you when you decide to block off time for other projects, and/or your health. Freelancing comes w

I stumbled onto Huberman some weeks ago. He is a really great podcaster and exceptionally intelligent. I really enjoyed his talk about dopamine and addiction. Highly recommended!

I have an EE background but worked in webdev for many years. I got pretty bored with webdev, and had the opportunity to get into embedded Rust development, so I did. Its been really awesome, learnt so much both in embedded but also hardware

My feeling is that crypto is done and dusted. Too many people got burnt during the last cycle peak and I think its reputation has been completely destroyed. Any semblance of technological innovation was dwarfed by the scams and damage it di

I think a big difference between then and now is how we interacted amongst each other. I somehow feel that the old days there were more community events and structures to keep people working together to achieve a common goal. Now it just fe

My academic background is Electronic Engineering and embedded development but found myself in fullstack and then frontend development roles for over 7 years. I began to experience what you described, essentially a bunch of hype technologies

Webdev is risky as an older person if thats all you know because its the most popular, and therefore most competitive. My advice is to use webdev as a backup to a specialisation of some kind, ideally something you can grow with. Embedded is

The reality is human beings haven’t evolved to spend all their lives in front of computers, no matter how much you love working with them. Maybe try something else for a while completely unrelated to your career, a sabbatical etc

Imo this is why it’s useful to discern a engineer from a developer. A developer can pickup a high level abstraction easily without ever needing to think about low level issues, and then comfortably stick to that silo for many years

I think people do care, but what are we suppose to do? Its psychologically taxing to consider how fragile our world is, and how insane some world leaders are. The most logical thing is to keep our heads down, continue with living our lives
