The Amazon bit is new, but it's a pervasive myth that Rust's async was rushed. Also, that Pin<T> was a design mistake. However, this is very strongly refuted. See [edit: warning: abrasively worded post by withoutboats] http

I think your main point is fine but your anti analogy is flawed. FIFA and organisations like UEFA etc very much set out rules of the game. This is a lot like legislation: teams will be fined if they or the fans break the rules.

Some of it, yes, but definitely not all of it. Don't pretend they had to pay 250k. It wouldn't have cost more than a couple hundred just to paint over it.

So they're not even paying the mortgage on the property (the tenants effectively are). This just adds to the "cry me a river" vibe.

Ordinary people have nowhere near that amount of cash (or investments). I can only imagine they had potential buyers lined up.

I don't see how this Mozilla hate is relevant. Igalia aren't ordinary users: they're developers.

There are daily commits to the repo. But in terms of tags in git (or mailing list announcements), there hasn't been a release for a couple years (AFAICT).

Quite. Then there is the question, is the cardinality of the continuum the first cardinality bigger than the cardinality of the naturals? It turns out the 'continuum hypothesis' can be true or it can be false. Neither contradicts

Windows 8 and UWP weren't ever popular, but Microsoft is having a little more success parcelling up UWP: * .appx became .msix; the latter also works for Win32 apps * UWP XAML/GUI evolved into WinUI, v3 of which doesn't target

Yes, GPON is overprovisioned (at 1:32 for Openreach). However, that isn't the full explanation for mediocre upload speeds on Openreach. GPON has a total shared capacity of 2.4 Gbps down and 1.2 Gbps. So you'd think if 1 Gbps down

.sh legitimately exists as a TLD because it's a ccTLD. ccTLDs are based on ISO country codes. In contrast, .zip only exists as a TLD because of ICANN money grubbing.

Memory leaks are annoying and, yes, you can get them in memory safe languages. But they are way less severe than memory corruption. Memory unsafe languages are liable to undefined behaviour, which is actively dangerous, both in theory and p

Yes, the OpenRAIL licences are deliberately not open source. Being open source or not is binary, and proprietary is the antithesis of open source. There are of course additional ways to describe specific proprietary things, like distribut

The claim that Stable Diffusion XL will be open sourced, has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Stability AI already claim Stable Diffusion (non-XL) is an “Open Source Model”[1]. It's not. The code is open source but the model is propri

Dang, I didn't realise NT for PowerPC can't be emulated. That's also a shame. Without wanting to sound entitled, my preference is NT for Alpha. That's because Visual Basic 6.0 for Alpha exists, but not for PowerPC. Of co

Gutted there's no emulator, even for a 32-bit OS. There are emulators for DEC Alpha, but they only support Unix ‘PALcode’ firmware. Windows NT required different PALcode, for which there is no working emulator AFAICT.
