How do I connect to a self hosted discord, and then connect it to my friends self hosted one? And where do I get the RFC for the protocol so that I can write my own compatible implementation? IRC isn't a product. It's a standardiz

Disagree all you like. The rust port apparently didn't hear you, because the line count grew by nearly 50%, and I can post other similar comparisons with some other codebases and languages too.

Sounds about right. Well written C just isn't very verbose. You can make it verbose by adding a ton of patterns that you don't need, like the gobject code in gnome. But you don't need to.

Network calls can appear to fail, but actually succeed. Local function calls don't have to deal with byzantine failures[1]. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_fault

You've moved the state around, but the state is still there -- just hidden. It's hidden in the network communication instead of the function calls. And the distributed, cross-service mutated state is a hell of a lot harder to tra

Yes, that's the point of using tools from un friendly countries -- though I wouldn't be surprised if there's data sharing there, I haven't heard evidence of it.
