Not iPad but on iPhone, I SSH into a Linux machine to edit scripts from bed and submit jobs to AWS or cluster with a sleeping partner beside me. Vim works surprisingly well for editing text in this scenario. In theory one could even do this

Reaper's great, but it and Ableton are focused on very different things. It's hard to come up with a workable analogy but they are probably at least as different as Photoshop and Illustrator are from one another.

Oh, I agree on that, and I know that most of the time I'll be asked why something isn't in Python so I mainly reserve it for when I am sure nobody will ask "why R?" :-) There is a benefit nowadays that I can rely on Pyth

OOP has been a critical part of real-life R for a long time, especially in complex implementations of classes of kernels, algorithms, and so on with S4, and more general-purpose with R6. Without these frameworks it would be difficult to im

quick addition: there are modules (eg cloudknot) for Python that make it possible to run a Python callable that launches an AWS Batch environment and job with a single method, which you could do anywhere that runs Python.

I agree completely for this scale. I did want to point out that it's fairly easy these days to do the kinds of things one would do on a cluster, which I learned just a few months ago myself :)

It is actually pretty easy to do the same type of processing you would do on a cluster with AWS Batch.

Every new release of Python 3.x further erodes this idea. I like using the new features because I find Python generally inexpressive and verbose, but I have a hard time explaining to nondevelopers who read the code about the assignment exp

Yup. If you go to the wrong store, and you're not paying attention or take the per weight unit price as the single item price, you can end up at the checkout learning that the cabbage head you wanted to buy is almost $9 nowadays.

xsv is great. I quite like the fork called qsv as well; it has some features that were helpful to avoid some piping I didn't want to do. There are a lot of other additions. https://github.com/jqnatividad/qsv

That might be nice if someone would do it and teach others to use it. Some labs have an RDBMS-based pipeline with published algorithms and data that nobody wants to try to reimplement (and which nobody would be paid to do). About the best i

I have used that, it's pretty nice! For now I settled on TickTick cause it's easy to use from my Linux laptop and my iOS devices. If you are fully Apple, Due is a good choice.
