Why does web conferencing software need to scan for local devices on my network? That’s the real question. Thanks for giving me the option to deny that request.

You could likely calculate them all on a modern MacBook easily enough. Searching the embeddings is a different problem, but there are lots of specialised databases that can make it efficient.

In space, nobody can hear you piss. And they don’t need to, because they get a notification on their desktop when you do. Add space piss notifications.

I understand how Rust enums work, but you’re misunderstanding how ABIs work (or my original point, or both). Rust enums are a Rust concept. Two identical enums will have different memory layouts on different machines, Rust versions, etc

It depends on how you do it: the QR code, link, long-distance or text-message process does indeed upload to Samsung servers. https://www.samsung.com/uk/apps/quick-share/?srsltid=AfmBOor...

Samsung doesn’t have airdrop: it uploads everything to a bucket and you share a public link to download. Your private stuff. That you want to share to the person next to you. That’s the difference with all of those “any smartphone can do it

While correct, everything is a number at the ABI boundary, so it’s still possible - if not harder. Depending on the layout and arch, -2 could well represent Terminated

Safe rust isn’t “rust code with absolutely 0 unsafe blocks in any possible code path, ever”. Rc uses unsafe code every time you construct one, for example. Unsafe blocks are an escape hatch where you promise that some invariants the compile

You’ve misread the comment. The ownership model is close enough, but the way that model is expressed by the developer is completely arbitrary (and thus completely nuts).

> Rust’s ownership model forbids things like doubly linked lists, which C programs use a lot. It’s literally in the standard library https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/collections/struct.LinkedList....

There’s an implicit assumption that trade deal details usually don’t involve illegal goods. That also doesn’t need to be clarified. The other interpretation would be that you were under the curious assumption that US beef isn’t the lowest q

Yes, but the question was “does this exist anywhere other than in China?” China is a pretty specific and unique market. Perhaps the existence of such an “everything app” is related to that, explaining why it doesn’t exist elsewhere?

Nope, but by that definition almost no countries have an “everything app”. There’s like, one example in a very unique market? It’s the “everything app” for messaging, friends and groups.

It’s pretty simple: SMS functionality sucked and was super expensive. Before WhatsApp there was blackberry messenger (BBM). When I was growing up kids were running around with blackberry phones, marketed at businessmen, purely for BBM. What

Nope - nobody in Europe uses WhatsApp as a payments platform. Does it even have one? It succeeded because it was around at the time where SMS messages where expensive, but smart phones where exploding in popularity.

It’s not random, that’s the point. If you neuter it so much that it’s only useful for a specific use case then make sure it’s named something relevant and specific related to that use case!
