Most of the US is solving this by building sideways (i.e. sprawl). It’s far cheaper than digging down, at least in the short term.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. In that order. Each one of those has a higher cost than the one before it. Change takes getting used to. Yeah, you’ll forget your bags for a while, but eventually it will become a normal thing.

Just to help with future understanding of how threads go off the rails: eatonphil added a comment about using static files instead of dynamic, then your reply was “and caching”, meaning “in addition to static files, also use caching”. At th

Outside of using a CDN, just simply using static files gives you caching for free at the file system level. Linux automatically keeps files in RAM when they’re used.

No, this happens on Windows too, and it’s not related to auto mute or anything like that. The audio stream just drops for a second, like if there was interference or buffer issue.

Yes, that’s a thing with Wordpress. Any change to the URL requires some sort of migration to the new URL, as they are statically added to pages. This was done to avoid the performance hit of dynamically generating the late every time. Wordp

Since you’re already using Word, why not use what it has? The Developer tab provides multiple input controls, and using those values should be fairly easy in the document. You can have a section at the top where they fill in the values (or

Having a passive strategy doesn’t mean you don’t test it, and you can even perform actual failovers once on a while to validate everything. Active-active is also valid, but the point is that it comes with a huge amount of increased complexi

iPhone browser extensions can only run in the Safari app, not inside other apps that embed it. I read HN through Feedly (which displays each article inside the app), and there’s no way to do any user customization.

Insteon has been around for longer than Cloud existed, and their devices will work with HomeSeer or HomeAssistant. But non-techie people probably wont be able to get those working. Maybe a glut of these will be on eBay soon.

I’ve never seen any definition of Net Neutrality that mentions CDNs co-located in ISP data centers as a problem, so the issue you’re mentioning doesn’t exist. It would be an NN issue if ISPs were to try to charge customers a different pri

Enabling Hyper-V on Windows currently causes problems with VirtualBox, so that’s one reason. They’re (vbox) working on fixing it, but it hasn’t landed yet.
