This. If 'the algorithm' decides not to promote your app, you should have to option to pay less. Unfortunately, there has yet to be good business incentives for a change like this. Hence it feels very much like a winner take all m

This. For all the talk that says software benefits the world, software developers do forget what's the perspective from the other side.

I don't know databases and there's quite a number of them on the market, so posts like these are great. Sidetrack though, does anyone have a list for pros and cons of each db, with a preference towards low latency? Also how does i

Without laws, companies are more concerned about their bottom line before user security. And you can't blame them for that - people would rather put food on their table after all, vs something that's going to slow you down or at m

Tech and automation alone will not work. You'll need to change the laws to cater for the redistribution because the jobs will dry up while the capitalists reap the benefits and only give conditional, token sums.

It's clickbait I guess. IIRC einstein had to dip into math for imaginary numbers and non-euclidean spaces for his theory on general relativity, but imaginary numbers aren't the most intuitive in the physical world and one at first

Doesn't commoditization lower the prices of goods? I guess it comes down to the math and amount of speculation. Maybe you're referring to the renting vs owning aspect of it that is potentially bad. In which case I would refer you

Yup, if you weed out all the political FUD the signs are pointing that way. History has often shown bickering happening between the upstart vs the incumbents as well.

It's what happens when there's a world power feeling threatened by a rising upstart. Be skeptical, folks.

I do think relying on production has it's limits. Countries would rather save up on apples, be self sufficient for a rainy day rather than spend them. Given how my (non-western) dollar converts to USD, I wouldn't hire a US person

The cynicism is huge in your post. Still you gotta admit there is a problem with CEOs making off with huge salaries/stock value especially in very hot sectors, with some of them even trying to dodge taxes. Sure you can make an argument

Aways nice to see good reasoning. Though I'd veer away from it if the task is too large and the program needs to be updated frequently by multiple people. Also, you got any recommendations for a c library for server apps?

Currently it's the press who coins the directors as auteurs, not the other way round. Eg. dark souls came before miyazaki. There are some exceptions like hideo kojima. Also not all games are movies. Their iteration times seem far longe

This line implies that willpower can overcome all of the distractions. However, there are studies that show it's not the case. Our brain is primordially designed to react to distractions - because it was a matter of survival or death.

A logo is nothing on it's own. Many agencies, like the one in the article, push a 'rebranding' that should include a brand/style guide on how to use its components, thereby justifying the price. If OP didn't receive

Tools help you be more productive. The keystroke reduction in using debuggers far supercedes print debugging. Imo you've blamed tool fetish when it's really inexperience that is the problem.

That's because many programming environments have not developed their debugging tools and people have accepted it as the mediocre norm. If you're ever tried an integrated IDE debugger for say debugging variables, I don't thin
