I'm writing a pretty big system in Go, and had not seen this as much of an issue. Could you provide more insight into your point? I'd like to see some code to compare, if its not to much to ask.

I love webfaction and recommended it to everyone. Most of my businesses rely on them.

I've only had a bad experience with them. The OS images needed were broken, and they just told me to use another one. Huh.

Yes, plus the fact that there is a time period where you are not as productive as possible, because you do not know the current codebase. Hell, you don't even know the requirements that well either.

This part: I am not saying don't interview people. I'm just saying when you do it, assume all the signals and readings you're getting from your candidate are janky as hell, because they are. Lots of strong performers can't do their best th

This is why I freelance remotely. I set my own hours, charge by day of work (or by week), and don't really need to commute (drove less than 200 miles in 6 months(grocery shopping)). I know I'm lucky.

Does this violate the spirit of this thread? matchist.com is a recruiter. This is for solo freelancers or teams.

Looking around I found a simple CMS sold to small online stores. Through their links you can find a listing of their customers (people who use their CMS). Problem is the CMS is open to SQL injection everywhere. If a script kiddie found thi

I don't store much data in them, but have an API that they talk to and pass data around as JSON. Like so: request --[JSON]-- > | RPi magic | response --[JSON]--> DB

Well, I didn't post there, but I will post here what I use mine for. - Cheap servers. Use them for a little business I own. Rather than rent a box on some datacenter, I ship out the Rpis ready to be used with my software. - Hydroponics cont

I wish my project management system (currently getblimp.com) had a way for you to sync the alarm clock with it. So I would get daily alarms on important things. Why don't you give your app an api?

You can try building a good portfolio on your own site, and then linking to it from Elance. Might allow you to get better clients. Though from experience, those type of sites are filled with the kind of clients you dont want.

Why would you even target a market you wont profit in? Makes no sense. What Google did is simple: They saw that there is no money in search (ask around), and saw that there was a lot of money in lead generation (advertising). They copied ov

I'm just waiting for the first AirBnB user that declines to leave the rental property. Eviction in some places is a really hard and long process.

Not to take a cheap shot at ddg ( user), but they are a more consumer focused company. Google on the other hand is more b2b.

How is it possible that a marketing business get the site name wrong? Moz == Mozilla. Its a big branding issue that could land them in trouble with the Mozilla legal department.

I don't think you suffered from bad luck. Just bad marketing. Programmers need to realize that you have to learn how to sell yourself if you want a good steady job.
