We're really going to act like the entire world doesn't have issues with this. Given this is a worldwide institution dealing with this, I think you are both casting the new too small. Famously before either the US or Western world

Sure, but they aren't leaving the field. There are plenty of stoppages in game already which take as much time. In that sense it's nothing new. Do non-fans view it as changing to 4 "quarters"? I'm not sure most peo

It's still two halves there is just another short stoppage time in which players stay on the field, the same as every foul, goal, and variety of other timing based decisions in football.

How does it violate the laws of the game? Every single break time decision in football is arbitrary already.

The original post mentioned people that weren't fans, though. Who are we talking about that are "football people" but not fans. I'm not trying to be dense, I just don't know which audience this is.

I'm not arguing for ad breaks, I'm saying non-fans would not even be aware this is something new. This is the thing that is too much? I just don't get it. The entire thing is a spectacle to sell ads.

Why would non-fans even care? It was a 3 minute break, non-fans would not have any idea that you were going for 2 halves to 4 "quarters". I think this is the kind of thing purists care about but most people don't, most don&#x

They're writing about a child that died, I don't think they hav any other motive other than the reader to feel sadness or outrage and given it is a dead child, they should not.

That's not what happened here. The team was too ambitious and not careful enough but they were not trying to kill the child. I just don't think there is any reason to put that additional context into what happened here.

Who is talking like this? Presumably the people looking forward to next year's models find some value out of this year's. You seem to want it to collapse, but that's not the argument you person you're responding to is ma

Yes, it's just tiring to hear the same meme putdowns about how this Winter we're all going to suffer when we probably have less brownouts etc than a lot of other places. I remember 2011 but I didn't actually have any issues w

That happened in 2021 and we haven't had similar issues since. I haven't experienced a power grid failure since then.

Recent survey showed on HN that 60% of adults in the US dislike it which means that 40% either don't care or like it 40 is a massive number, you're not that far from a coin flip. I don't think any of us have a good read on ho

You can call it superficiality but there are just some of us who believe that treating people right is the core of this. You're viewing that as some kind of superficial virtue signaling but if we're not treating people with respec

It is not about good tone it's about not being hateful and rude. Why is this that hard to pick apart? Why do devs believe being rude is somehow a sign of honesty? They are orthogonal. This post needed none of the mean-spirited attacks
