First, thanks for all the effort you've put into this. Sometimes skeptical questioning comes across as negativity, I hope this wasn't the case. A previous Elnode announcement was what made me actually want to look into Elisp more seriously,

Sounds fun. The problem with elisp, though, is that it's (I am told) not a real Lisp. The info tutorial shipped with Emacs doesn't make me suspect otherwise. Perhaps a few neat elnode examples might help.

You are still taking a risk when you buy the toaster. If a toaster malfunction burns your kitchen and the shop or manufacturer go bankrupt you might not receive compensation.

If it is the case that the space race was a byproduct of the cold war, then there isn't much reason to feel nostalgic.

First you need to define machine, consciousness, normal intelligence of a human being, running, being destructible, shutting down, and objective. Most of those words have a meaning in our current daily life which lose sense when applied to

Spelling problems are not necessarily due to a failure of the education system, they could also be caused by dysgraphia, dyslexia, or even just plain hangover.

A topic usually left out in scaling discussions is: how much can one predict? Or is it mostly trial and error? Is it mostly about good "reactive" engineering, would it have benefited from good mathematical modeling?

The most interesting aspect of this: What can be done with an area like that, in a way that involves maintaining the current aesthetics? We've done that before, with old power stations and churches.

The fist item in that list is learn algebra, and rightly so. It then follows something similar to a university-level curriculum in Europe (continental, perhaps not UK), which might lead all the way to research maths, but perhaps it is not t

From that link: Back then, five years ago, there was no C, so it was a choice between BASIC, Assembler, or Pascal. Things already changed quite fast in the eighties...

It is a 1986 interview published in the book Programmers at Work, now republished on the web 20+ years later by the author. It would be interesting to redo those interviews again and compare... How much the perspective has changed?

At uni, decades ago, I was told that whenever a "mathematician" appeared up on the telly, it was to present their new idea of definining a new constant equal to 2pi... Not the same now, of course, with shows like Numb3rs and Big Bang Theory

Thanks, it's clear now. I was confused about the purpose of the cl package. Just checked the manual again and it is not misleading. I think it was my wishful thinking as I was looking for something more concise than elisp's set functions.

The article just argues by referring to convention, which is rather unfulfilling. It succeeds in pointing out that the two space convention made sense with monospaced fonts. For many of us monospaced fonts are not a thing of the past...

The answer by Redditor otherwiseyep is really, really good as a quick public forum answer. Definitely worth reading for those of us five-year-old-equivalents in terms of knowledge of macroeconomics.
