Would be nice if you'd include ClamAV in your test results. Would also be nice to be able to get simple and clear data on how well it detects viruses and rates of false positives.

Any idea what to block if I want to just completely block google analytics at the firewall level?

The data still goes to google. While the expectation would be that the data is only used by homebrew, there's no actual way of knowing that google isn't gratefully helping itself. And given the entire way Google's business wo

This would be great if you get it working. I don't suppose you've got a link for what you've got so far in git or anything? I only make basic use of tmux because I'm more comfortable with i3 key bindings.

It also helps if you want to do an octopus merge of branches that otherwise have no common ancestor. If it comes to it, you can use git replace to provide a false parent for the root commit.

And many open source developers are just fine with that. If someone finds a use for my code and even if they make lots of money off it then good for them. It's not like they've stopped me from using it in the original form. I'

My wife is Finnish so we got one of these boxes. The piece of advice in that book I most liked was not to leave your baby outside to sleep when the temperature drops below -10 degrees C. So apparently at only -9 it's fine.

I'm not sure how wise that is. It doesn't exactly lead to readable scripts. Zsh has had the equivalent feature with the syntax ${(operator)parameter) for over two decades so plenty of time for more operators to be added. It is ver

I worked with Ada in the early part of my career. For the most part, the strong typing really helps but it can often make the logic messier that you can't push an integer subtype one past the maximum value. Unlike C, the code base tend

Seems a mistake for LC_TIME, and LC_PAPER etc to remain the same as the US-centric way they are for C. I'd call the locale U and also have it indicate ISO date formats (YYYY-MM-DD), and metric units in general (such as standard paper s

One of the problems with the patent system is that it pushes medical research in the direction of drugs because they are easier to market than alternatives such as knowledge of medical procedures.

I never used fail2ban: sshguard was simply what I came across first and it was easy to setup and worked as advertised. The Arch wiki states: "sshguard is different from the other two in that it is written in C, is lighter and simpler t

It's interesting that "The transport protocol doesn’t cover who sends their banner first". It'd be good if I could configure my server to keep quiet until the client identifies itself as an SSH client. I run it on an unu

I'd make const the default, requiring a var keyword for variables. This makes it easier to get const correctness right because a missing var would break compilation while currently, a missing const doesn't. Next on my list would b

It is possible to adapt fairly easily between different setups. I've got a fairly advanced zsh setup but do a lot of admin on a mix of Linux, Solaris and BSD where I have to put up with whatever the defaults are. I resisted vim for a l

As this is a laptop, PC-BSD could be a good choice which is FreeBSD tuned to desktop usage. Plain FreeBSD is also not a bad choice. The other major BSDs have clear niches while FreeBSD is probably the best supported, most popular and is str

I'd recommend using the mdoc macros instead if you're writing new man pages. It has semantic macros instead.

The rationale described there for pybind sums up my experiences with boost. Now that much of the best parts of boost are available in C++11, boost ends up being more trouble than it is worth. In general, I think it is best avoided if you&#x
