Amongst all the made-for-YouTube content that others have mentioned, it's also worth remembering that many universities will publish entire courses for free. Christof Paar's Introduction to Cryptography lecture series [0] comes to

I'm surprised to see this on the front-page. It really doesn't seem to have much substance, just aspiration-porn driving sales of their product. I was hoping to read about how to get started, pitfalls to watch out for, etc.

Just based on the linked bio, it seems like this person’s actual work is focused on addressing mass-surveillance, cooperation between governments and social media to restrict free speech, and differences in moderation in different regions.

Given the direction Brendan Eich has pursued at Brave, I'm personally very glad he didn't remain as Mozilla's CEO, regardless of political views. Edit: Also, I don't think it's particularly reasonable to single out

More applicable for kids, although certainly of interest to adults too: Minecraft. Any interest in Redstone will push players towards learning the basics of binary logic, without even realising what they're learning will be applicable

This could have changed in the last few years, but I think rg does tend to (sometimes significantly) outperform ag, see the author's benchmarks [0]. 0: https://blog.burntsushi.net/ripgrep/#code-search-benchmarks

It's a bold move to put Learn C the Hard Way as the only book recommendation for learning C, haha. This article seems like a good jumping-off point. I would be interested to see some examples of well-written embedded software which a

Really enjoyed the conference this year, sad that I probably won't be able to make it to next year's event in Tokyo. Definitely take a look at the technical program [0] if you're at all interested, I think pretty much all the

I appreciate "neobrutalism" is really a very different movement to architectural brutalism, but I'm not sure how the first examples the author provides [1] can really be compared to the original brutalist movement at all. Sur

Posts are fairly few & far-between, but Cryptography Dispatches [1] always has very high-quality content; worth reading if you work in that space. 1: https://buttondown.email/cryptography-dispatches

Hm, with regard to timing attacks, I’m not talking about clearing the cofactor, but rather setting the most significant bit to zero & the second most significant to one. My understanding is that this is to defend against an insecure imp

This article [0] has a good explanation of why clamping is necessary. But the process is very simple, you just generate 32 random bytes, clear the three least significant bits to avoid small-subgroup attacks, then clear the most significant

Could you elaborate on what definition of "malware" you're using here? I'm not certain it is the same as how the word is used in common parlance, but I would be interested to hear more if you disagree.

It's not just the FSF's role to "comment" on software licenses, but also to advocate for the use of free software licenses. That involves convincing developers to use them. To go into a project and dictate to them that
