Half, really? I don't run them and haven't had issues with apps not working in recent memory, though I try to stick to F-Droid stuff almost entirely. A lot of the time you can use your mobile browser instead of some company's

All this terminology is muddied and often misused. The whole term is supposed to refer to getting access to the root user, which is definitely an OS-level thing. One thing people often don't remember also is that gaining root on your p

Seconding this. I eat a lot of meal prep'd pasta or soup dishes, I just microwave a bowl from my fridge. I eat this for every meal, breakfast included. It's satisfying having warm, savory, "real" food. I don't disli

Yeah, Unity games seem to famously not run well, and many gamers I know are turned off by hearing a game was made with it. I think we'll see Godot rise in popularity as well.

The max speed isn't as important as much as the fact it can go past the USB 2 limit in speed.

Depending on the type of game, you can use stuff like a leverless arcade controller, such as the Flatbox or Frame1. Works well for fighting games, platformers, simpler 2D stuff. Anything that doesn't need two analog sticks or expect a

Quiet and peaceful, cleaner air, you can play loud music and stomp around without upsetting neighbors, and for many people most of their time is spent on a computer anyway.

How will this affect GNU/Linux? They mention an installer and a yes/no prompt, which to me implies Windows. If it can be disabled, I suppose distro packagers will likely make the choice for the user when they create the package. O

Not sure why this gets recommended over LineageOS. It forcefully comes with Micro G, which can't really be removed, unlike Lineage where you can just choose not to install any gapps of any kind and use the device fine.

I see people occasionally mention shortcuts or vim as reasons they can't switch layouts, but I've done it multiple times and you just learn the new spots, same as typing words with all the letters that moved. It never felt like a

It's not just about total speed, but effort and comfort when you type at all. The person who can type up to 160wpm can very trivially and comfortably peck out the occasional stroke at 80-100wpm as well. Getting to know your keyboard we

As someone who built a split ergonomic keyboard and ended up changing layouts anyway, I don't think you can buy your way out of learning something new. I still had issues on an ergo split keyboard even with dvorak, had to switch to wor

Dino and Gajim both crash frequently on Wayland (Sway in particular) due to GTK issues that I'm not expecting to be fixed any time soon. Gajim also gets very slow the longer it's open, can't recall if Dino was the same. Dino

The tablet market is indeed very disappointing. I have somewhat high hopes for the PineTab 2 being good (eventually, as drivers improve). I don't see much appeal for Android or iOS tablets. I see the form factor as being a bit like a l

I have come around on the driver blob issue a bit in recent years. Something using software blobs can be RE'd and become fully free someday, but is not FSF-approved until it is. Burn the same blobs into the hardware where they can'

If you only buy devices with LineageOS support, you can continue to get updates for a very long time. I would not want to be at the mercy of the manufacturer for the software.
