The benefits you describe are certainly real, but I think people should be free to complain and be disappointed as well.

I fixed a computer for some old people once who weren't the least bit technical, but they had LibreOffice installed. My guess is they found it searching "microsoft word free" or similar. A bit like how some kids end up findin

I wish this viewpoint were more common/well-known. Somehow people get it in their head that people are tinkering with all their stuff constantly and never working, but just as TFA says, you'll have configs that haven't change

I agree with the spirit of your post, and that AMD is probably the lesser evil, but it's worth noting they "just" moved the proprietary bits into a firmware blob. It's still similarly proprietary but due to the kernel be

Do you have any examples in mind from each era? I thought Fallout 3 was quite good around back then. Today we've got stuff like Borderlands 4 (or whatever the newest one is) that barely run on anyone's PC, and general game install

I similarly had an issue with stuff falling out of my pockets which made me get pants with zipper pockets. In the end I was disappointed. I had some pants and shorts from Fjallraven and the zippers on the pockets all failed in under a year

This is pretty much flipped from my experience, so I'm curious if you could expand on this. I use grep a lot to filter command output or maybe search all my txt file notes at once when I can't remember which file contained somethi

Can you get more info by launching the game from a terminal? Also, shot in the dark, but maybe try the solution from this old thread: https://www.gog.com/forum/dark_reign_series/dark_reign_2_not...

LineageOS without gapps (no microg even) works fine. Very few apps require play services. I think everything from F-Droid works.

It's like having a library you built up over the years based on your tastes and the era you grew up in that you can idly look through vs having a search bar to YouTube. I hear the same argument a lot when it comes to game emulation. Pe

Not disagreeing with you, but your comment brought back memories of Ubuntu One, and the amazon spyware(?) search thing. Ubuntu is kind of the Windows of the GNU/Linux world in that they repeatedly do user-hostile things that test every

IIRC this was made to solve a licensing issue with busybox (toybox being more permissive) and be included with Android. As a fan of copyleft, initially the idea annoyed me, but I eventually came to the conclusion that if it was the only way

Last I checked you could use the dedicated HDMI port, but not video over USB-C, so no video via dock and no way to connect two monitors at once. https://asahilinux.org/docs/platform/feature-support/m1/#ta

If everyone who liked the original goes out and buys a remaster, then hates it, aren't they still counted as a sale? It's like a movie ticket, you don't know if the movie will be any good when you pay for it. I don't see
