I'd like something like this but for houseflies instead of mosquitoes. Although, I suppose a simpler solution would be to install a cat door rather than propping the back door open.

Quad9 is based in Switzerland, so the German court should only have jurisdiction over whatever servers are in Germany. It seems like the worst case scenario is that Quad9 shuts down their German servers, but still serves German requests fro

I use GNU Parallel for long-running jobs for its --eta option. If a job will take days or longer it's useful to know that early in the process. You might want to cancel it and try something else, and if you want to proceed with the lon

This is a well-written and insightful article, but I don't think it's good for HN. Divisive political and culture war issues are thoroughly covered elsewhere. I would prefer HN to focus on its unique niche and show me new ideas I

CGNAT is standard on mobile connections, it's more common than getting your own IPv4 address. Over the last few years, it's becoming increasingly common for residential connections, because ISPs can no longer get additional IPs fo

IPv6 is faster and more reliable because the user can connect to your site natively instead of going through NAT and CGNAT.

I cook in titanium pots. They are marketed to ultralight hikers, and are mostly too small, but you can find ones large enough for kitchen cooking. It's easier to clean than iron or steel, but not as easy as teflon. The nice thing is, u

I don't think gender ideology is an appropriate topic for HN. There is little to be gained and much to be lost from discussing it here. Little to be gained because it has nothing to do with software development, and because gender issu

Are the numbers the size in bits? If so, those are very small blocks. It seems like you would get more effective redundancy with larger blocks. Does Reed-Solomon scale so poorly that only tiny blocks are computationally feasible?

Noise shows up as light gray lines or dots in the DFT. In the Imagemagick example, this noise is removed by replacing those parts with black. But you want to do the reverse, so you should add noise by adding light gray features to the DFT.

If you want to go even further, Imagemagick can operate on the discrete Fourier transform of an image. The effects are unintuitive but powerful. Read the documentation at: https://legacy.imagemagick.org/Usage/fourier&#x

I don't believe there are any POWER machines using UEFI. The standard POWER boot process uses OPAL (Open Power Abstraction Layer) instead. But POWER does use GPT disk partitioning, which is from the UEFI standard.
