I feel we pretty badly need to revisit laws surrounding social media platforms in the US. I'm not sure what the silver bullet is here, but the way platforms have almost limitless latitude to filter and shape discourse on their platform

It doesn't make much sense if you think of the US government as a single entity with a single balance sheet. This, however, isn't the case.

What is "no community involvement"? Wouldn't you still want some zoning laws to prevent for example having a sewage treatment plant put up in your back yard?

You should get vaccinated so the rest of us can get back to our lives. People have known about the vitamin D connection since almost the beginning of the pandemic and it wasn't until the vaccine was rolled out in the United States that

As others have pointed out, the very reason they're facing this much criticism is because this bug was very foreseeable and avoidable.

And I don't think anyone would blame you as a person for making that choice, but I also wouldn't call you a highly competent developer.

Is your argument that the windows desktop is a good piece of software or that software developers who consistently create bad software are actually good developers? I realize most of the terrible bloat, adware, security holes etc are probab

If the only solution you have is a bad one than it is the best solution by default.

My personal opinion is that a large subset of adults is either unable or unwilling to accept that bad things can happen for no reason and there isn't always a solution.

Let's not confuse changing behaviors with giving up. I don't wear a mask outside anymore because the evidence I've seen seems to indicate that spread in outdoor settings for incidental encounters is extremely unlikely between

You'd have to actually have a reasonable chance of catching pedophiles though. If the system is as trivial to bypass as turning off photo sync it isn't a very good justification.

No. Used to only buy Lenovo and then super fish happened and I haven't bought one since. I'm sure it doesn't bother Lenovo one bit though as people who actually care about this stuff are a fraction of 1% of their market. Frus

No, because a much better system could be designed if we planned on using it for id verification from the start. Some easy improvements even keeping a number based system would be: 1) don't assign ID numbers sequentially and based on l

You wouldn't have to condition those things on it, but if 90% of people were easy to verify and the other 10% relied on existing systems, it would still be less burdensome overall and also easier to catch fraud.

Eh, I think the issue is that because there's no central system, every institution that needs to verify identity latches onto systems that were never intended for that purpose (such as ssn). The use of a bunch of different systems mean

I see this attitude a lot that after 5-10 years devs think they no longer have to worry about writing maintainable code. I respect that once you reach a certain level of competence you can probably coast by without thinking too much, but le

How does an sms hijacking attack typically work? I know sms isn't secure, but how does one go from having a password to bypassing the sms confirmation? Is it as easy as having the number and carrier?
