Not to mention the spotty Google Fiber throughout the downtown. I love Austin. It's like Santa Cruz but with much better beer and BBQ.

It's hard for me to criticize a business model that makes money. If VC is willing to fund Acqui-hires As a Saleable Service, and then pay top dollar for its figurative prom queens, then why shouldn't people create and pursue th

AlexNet #s IMO provide an excellent ballpark estimate of how well balanced compute and communication are in terms of both the framework and the underlying platform. A platform that runs AlexNet well has excellent computation performance for

Using 3 year-old GPUs on a much deeper network than the other guys(tm) to demonstrate awesome scaling efficiency == Intel-level FUD. Note also the absence of overall batch size. Wonder what would happen to that scaling efficiency if those

There's no evidence so far that FPGAs come anywhere close to GPUs w/r to deep learning performance. All the benchmarks so far, through Arria 10, show it to be mediocre for inference, and the lack of training benchmark data IMO im

Nice job generalizing, you wouldn't work in HR, would you? IMO the answer to whether you leave or not is "it depends." I've taken the counter once for a 25% raise as I was in the middle of a project and I cared about fin

For me, it's only "no fun" when HR sends an absolute fool with the right keywords on their resume to me (which is what they usually do). It's a lot like dating unfortunately. In an age where variants of "FizzBuzz&q

IMO Even if you love your current gig, you should interview elsewhere at least once or twice a year to estimate your market value. Do not let your HR department establish your value for you, they will always sell you short.
