Re: prisons - This isn't necessarily the case. Florida's private prisons have air conditioning and the public ones don't in part because of democratic control and the private ones have fewer deaths from heat stroke as a resul

Agreed - like it or not it's the foundation of our civilization and not having read it is more of a hindrance than anything

So we should just ignore these numbers? Does this not warrant more information about what is causing these deaths?

Why must it be a comparison? A 40% increase in deaths for any population is mind boggling

Yes this is true. I realize my comment had the wrong tenor in that the actual exams matter less than just having rigorous courses. Not everyone should be a doctor or a physical therapist or a software engineer and it's common nowadays

I feel very difficult exams should be commonplace. Everyone should be held to very high standards. It's surprising how many professions don't do this. For example, I've been to several physical therapists who barely seemed to

Not sure why you're getting down voted. People here complain that a website/app doesn't load quickly even if it's a few seconds regardless of the complexity. I'm not going to use the service if it has problems. I do

Yeah what a terrible example. We can all strive to more curious but bad product design is bad product design. We shouldn't let people off the hook for that regardless of the engineering challenges that arise.

What exactly is sales engineering? I have never understood this term or what the work these people do is. To be fair I haven't spent much time looking into it but any insight you have is appreciated

How is this offensive? We in the west are mortgaging our future to help people who are 80+ lives a few extra months or maybe years largely in isolation, how is this a better alternative than letting them see their families and enjoy doing t

As far as I can tell developed countries largely aren't dealing with hospital overcrowding. If I don't go to an in person event in a large American city, will this prevent cases from occurring in say, eastern Europe? In the aggreg

I found out the food bank I had been giving to pays their CEO (or executive director, I forget) more than $350k a year. To be fair, Their budget is more than 90 million dollars but it seems absurd that a not-for-profit CEO needs that kind o
