The most interesting quote for me: A federal judge agreed, ruling in October that with the “overall inferiority of its proposal,” IBM “lacked any chance of winning” the contract. The corporate cliché of the 1970s and ’80s, that no one ever

Unfortunately it looks like the entire xip.io domain is blacklisted as "Reputation-Viruses" by the filtering service that we use. I guess this is because it's been used by some bad guys already.

But after the patch the advice wouldn't hold any more, everyone could go back to happily using IE. If XP wasn't patched then the news articles would be more nuanced. The "Internet Explorer is dangerous!" theme from earli

I like that idea. Unfortunately it doesn't prevent them using them online as well . At least for my cards, if I lock out the PIN I can still use them for non-PIN purchases.

I'm sure that's part of their thinking. But note that this is only on TiVos, so many (most?) of the consumers will already be used to the idea of HDD recording and series links. Once I got a TiVo it wasn't long before I got i

It sounds like it's only a channel in the sense that "tuning" to channel 450 will launch the app. You'd then have to search for the show you want to watch. A TiVo box already has lots of options for browsing through a da

This has been available in the UK for a while (on Virgin Media TiVo boxes, the only cable supplier here). I don't have a Netflix subscription so I haven't tried it properly, but the integration with TiVo is good. If you're br

In some cases it would be useful to perform session handling like this in nginx. I like the idea of building a reverse proxy which handles authentication and sessions, in front of a backend web page which wasn't designed to handle it.

Windows RT devices do have a native version of Office though - in fact I think that's one of their main (only?) selling points. I know it's limited compared to the full x86 version (I've only played with one briefly), but I s

It looks like the server is slightly misconfigured, it isn't serving the required intermediate certificate[1]. Desktop browsers are smart enough to find the intermediate certificate and then verify the chain, but technically I don'

Yes, I'd say most MITM scenarios are at the client end. But you could, for example, be an evil network admin near the LastPass servers. That would let you MITM almost everyone who connects.

If I was using one-time-pads I'd probably be using them because I didn't trust encryption, so "unencrypted" wouldn't matter here. In real-world implementations I think the security is probably based around a large n
