I think the proliferation of languages is due to people following your advice: they go off to make their own language, realize it's hard to make something radically different and end up just fixing a couple of their pet peeved from another

Mmh. My iPod Touch is second gen. I guess older iPhones don't load pages in the background and third gen iPod Touches probably do. It seems likely that Apple enables background loading only on devices with more memory (or maybe, on faster n

Really? It's definitely not on the iPod Touch: other windows do not finish loading in the background, they wait until you swith to them to load. If you're right, I wonder why Apple made it different on the iPhone.

Wait, you're saying the WSJ app does not cost $17.99 per month as reported? You're saying it's free with the $1.99 per week website subscription? Did people just make up the $17.99?

I don't mean to be pedantic, but he didn't say that stating that the iPad is not designed for what he does means that you are fanboy. He merely said that fanboys would say that, which is likely true since I think almost everyone would say t

Right, it's not meant to replace a laptop. I currently own both an iPod Touch and a Sony eBook reader. An iPad could easily replace both of them and its price is actually pretty much just the sum of the prices of the two.

Replying to your aside: With HTML5's offline capabilities you don't really need hosting (for many kinds of apps). I need to run a server on my laptop only once so I can download little programs I write to my iPod. With this method I don't n

I haven't programmed in Logo in years, but I recall it as pretty full-blown: isn't it a dialect of Lisp (with a funny infix syntax but) including macros?

In my experience it's fantastic and you get good answers very quickly. I got an answer from precisely the mathematician I was planning on emailing! It's not meant for homework type questions, though, and they do shut those down right away.

A small correction to your comment: your "correction" is actually an addition, since you point out an omission not a mistake.

Nice app! I have some suggestions: 1) Add a setting to make Readability the default (when this option is used, you could turn the current Readability button into See Original). 2) It would be nice to be able to see more than the first 30 it

The problem the author finds with pure functional programming is very well known and is one reason people never use a pure functional language, sticking instead to practical functional languages such as Erlang (that has processes), ML diale
