Adding to this, any structure involving a large number people is generally extremely change resistant. If you're looking for changes that go against the grain of the culture that you're working in then you might as well forget it.

The lack of appreciation between people is probably a sympton of a deeper problem. Perhaps the environment is toxically competitive and forces people to play down other people's contributions. Maybe there's a lack of leadership wh

This feels incredibly hand wavy. I moved to Spain from the UK last year and one of the huge benefits for me is that the hours feel far more natural. I tend to go out fairly late in the evenings (usually 1 or 2), get up earlyish (around 9:30

I tend to vary the amount of refactoring I do depending on how much code is likely to depend on it. For instance I'd spend more effort in the DOM than I would in the controller (remember this is degrees of effort not lots/none). T

TDD does allow you scope for exploration work. If you watch Kent Beck's TDD screencasts[1] you'll see him follow a workflow where he's exploring an unfamiliar protocol. What's interesting is that he first frames his expl

This is probably a driver issue, if you're not using it try Poltergeist[1], a headless webkit driver. Because it's webkit it basically behaves the same way as if you were testing it yourself in chrome. [1] https://githu

I'm a huge fan of the gherkin format, it let's me sketch out a feature and then work through it methodically, testing as I go. But cucumber has a critical flaw, it forces you to think about code while you're writing. Because

I moved into an apartment not too long ago that was full of CFLs. For me I found the quality of the light incredibly bad, a bit like being under office strip lighting but not as bright. I replaced them all with Philips LED bulbs and am extr

Anyone have an idea how this compares to crossrider from a functional point of view? It would be great to use an open source alternative but I'm wondering if there are any pitfalls to using trigger.io's browser-extensions.

The problem here is that crowd-funding is a risky business and as things stand paypal has to shoulder that risk. What we need is a type of transaction where the payer/crowdfunder assumes the risk, i.e. chargebacks are not allowed.
