Insync[1] does a good job of solving this, the google docs files are the microsoft equivalent, e.g. spreadsheets sync as excel files (note I'm not affiliated in any way). [1] https://www.insynchq.com/

Wow, they've been building up to this one for I think years. Very happy to see it. Having a real-time* filesystem available is going to great for not only the big projects like web hosting but I can imagine a ton of little in house too

This is one of the most abhorrent ideas I've read about in quite a while. To call an addict's decision to do this "voluntary" is disingenuous to say the least.

I can understand limiting access, but it seems a bit dumb to only show demos to registered users.

How do you access the demos on https://famo.us ? I've signed up for an account but still can't get access.

There's some great little improvements in there, to_h, required keywords and being able to decorate methods are all things that I regularly want. They're really making good on their philosophy of optimising for developer happiness

A mistep with urls is that they're encoded when shown in the address bar. If spaces etc were just shown as is they'd instantly become more readable. Given that possibility you might find that developers drop a lot of the noise lik

The rental market in London is pretty ferocious. I don't think comments could work because you'd always run the risk that somebody has decided they like a place and want out off other people from looking. In the end you'd sti

The whole idea of closing questions seems rather odd, if a question isn't useful then no-one is going to look at that page, no problem. I think the majority of people end up on stackoverflow pages from google anyway and google is more

I think that would be the majority actually, the list may be a lot longer but the only ones I've been able to confirm are USA, UK, and Canada (perhaps someone could fill me in).

I had a play with express/node a whole back but found it quite low level (useful in some cases). Is there anything closer to rails in node or is there a preference for piecing everything together with libraries?

"Large portion of the planet"... you've got North America, South America(some exceptions), Europe, a good chunk of Asia and Australasia. That's a pretty reasonable selection of places to live isn't it?

I've got a low traffic project I'm working on at the moment that uses pouchdb as an offline data store for a tablet app. I'm currently playing with implementing the couchdb protocol in rails. It seemed like a crazy idea to st

Couchdb lets you listen to changes[1], if you want to do anything in addition to the basic CRUD you can do it there. This does limit you to performing asynchronous operations but most of the time that's good enough. You do still end up

Given that a large part of most degrees is pretty irrelevant to the student's future career 3 years seems plenty. If you're going to be an academic you can just do a masters or get on with your PHD.

Why not just add a new class which is instantiated and called inside the perform method? There are valid reasons for not choosing class methods but claiming it limits the way in which you implement a method is just nonsense.

The theme I'm seeing in this series is a desire to add a layer between controllers and the domain. This new layer seems closer to the controller than the domain (it always acts upon the domain) so are you not simpler making the control
