While the naysayers will say, "Why isn't this in the cloud?," I think the response times and uptime of hackernews is really impressive. If anyone has a write-up of the infrastructure that runs HN, I would be interested. Maybe

This is upvoted higher, so I would have expected comments to be moved here. I think if you're consolidating posts and comments, upvotes should go with. It doesn't age well when viewing /best. Sort of a confusing experience

Rent is way up in Brooklyn as of late 2021. I decided to leave nyc because renewing my lease came with a significant rent hike to the “pandemic deal” I got. Commercial-wise, I can’t see it recovering to pre-pandemic levels. I’m not seeking

JS is a punching bag because it’s a moving target that most everyone has to deal with at some point and pre-ES6 JS had quite a few warts. It’s a fine language now, especially with TypeScript helping to push things in the right direction. I

I agree with the post. I should be able to set how I view my search results. Not everyone has the bandwidth to download all of the album art. My most recent, frustrating bug is setting an album or podcast to be available offline and then ha

IMO, asking payment for open source defeats the purpose of open source software. It’s like an artist gifting a work of art and then expecting compensation after it becomes a extremely popular. I think the real issue is licensing. We need a

I’m in the same position as many other users with frozen accounts. I’ve called and appealed multiple times. I don’t understand how PayPal is a company when they’re clearly out to harm their users.

You’ll find that a lot of software that runs large, enterprise applications is comprised of “pet projects.” Node.js and Python both started as pet projects. If your criticism is that there isn’t a lot of maturity in the ecosystem, then I wo

This looks like an attempt to obfuscate the negative sentiments that we’ve come to associate with the conglomerate Facebook. I think there will be some short term success, but Meta and Facebook will become synonymous as Alphabet and Google
