LBRY desktop is also centralized btw. AFAIK there are no front ends built by totally different teams from LBRY, although there could be.

I don’t think it’s the pinnacle, no. I think the fediverse has been a stopgap. Not trying to minimize the hard work of these developers, but the user experience just doesn’t make sense.

The elephant in the room is that videos take a long time to create. And thus hosting of the videos won’t easily be trusted to random server admins. I barely trust pleroma/mastodon admins with my garbage little text posts. I wouldn’t wa

as prompted from the OP, it’s just a few things that a decentralized network can offer around account safety that is better than the current centralized ones today. what are you looking for from me? i’ll try to perform better for you next t

frankly, i think this is where decentralized networks can help us. 1. networks where global reach to total strangers is not even possible, or at least is not the default. the vast majority of people only really want to reach their “friends

Yep, or like Gun. Simple is better. But they all have yet to be proven workable from an application standpoint, it seems.

The difficulty of hosting my own pages makes me prefer a system like Nostr[1] where the user doesn’t need any kind of account on a specific server. I could also post markdown files over that too. [1]: https://github.com/fiat

Exactly! If you want to fully participate in Lemmy, you need a Lemmy account. The federation here is basically an advertisement to join Lemmy. It’s the same with Peertube and Pixelfed. If we need to make new accounts everywhere, I don’t see

$5 per month is too much on your competing services. If you want to differentiate, you should offer an option that is less. At $5 per blog, I can’t justify subbing to more than… 2 at the most. Compare the value proposition to something like

It’s actually quite brilliant on Status. Everyone gets a random super long number for an ID. Your friends can assign your name when they add you as a contact (just like phone numbers). And then you can also get a globally recognizable name

They are both metadata sponges, but Matrix is on a whole different level of bad because it gossips that metadata to every server it connects with. Not to mention that you don’t actually own your accounts unless you run the server yourself.
