Yeah I find the language laws thing funny. I've worked with a crapton of people who never had to learn a word of French, and if they ever have to, then so what? French is the language here. That's like complaining about Italian in

I'm a second-generation immigrant born and raised in Montreal. Quebec's language is French and historically speaking it has every reason to attempt to protect it. Should immigration be more accommodating towards people willing to

I'm glad it's working well you but neither Signal nor Wire took acceptable amounts of time to sync my messages versus every other networked app I use.

The last time I had looked into it, somebody on the Signal github suggested otherwise. I hope you're right but either way that doesn't change the fact that this problem is still present today.

My main problem with Signal (and similar apps like Wire) is syncing messages across devices. I'd often find myself turning on my home computer after work and having to wait a while for the desktop app to finally finish syncing with my

"As for health insurance, the system works if you have a good job with good benefits." That's kind of an important "if", though. My mother had a menial job when she was diagnosed with lung cancer and I wouldn't

Please don't spread generalizations like these. I'm sorry about the job situation in your area but I live in a Canadian metropolis where 1) there's no shortage of low-level work and 2) they will pay much more than your averag

Calm down. Stephanie has worked at Oculus and Unity and continues to do contract work in AR/VR while running a two-person company with Rich Geldreich from Valve. I have some problems with the post as well but the author's knowledg

Yeah as much as I appreciate the concept of XMPP, I find it unlikely that the average person cares about that sort of stuff. Of course, I'm limited to the people I know, so maaaaybe I'm mistaken, but if you think about the average

The SMS protocols are indeed not proprietary (all the specs are online) but you'll either need a contract with an aggregator or with every mobile network operator you'd like to send traffic to. Not very handy. :)

Your argument is that people only use C++ because of existing libraries and engines My response is that we use C++ for the language itself, existing engine or not. :)

C with classes is often frowned upon but I'm actually okay with it. It keeps things simple while still allowing for a few benefits. I think the Mars Rover project is a good example of that.

Any large enough game will use C/C++ at its core because short of using assembly, it's the only real choice we have. C#, Lisp or whatever else are nice for gameplay scripting, but underneath there is a need for control that most l

I think it depends on the individual; I know I can't drive and pay attention to the radio or an audiobook at the same time. I could easily miss a red light. And sure, commutes are routine, but you're not driving with the same peop

You not knowing anybody who uses RTTI doesn't mean much. I know people who use it. Our coding standard at work is mostly based on Meyers and Alexandrescu's guidelines. Chrome and Qt's standards and design choices are their bu

Don't sweat it, people would've complained either way. Like you said earlier, it's a build requirement, not a runtime one, and there are advantages to using these tools.

Aside from Composer (which is a good thing for managing dependencies), I'm not sure why you would think "this is how people develop and deploy PHP stuff nowadays". The author uses these tools out of choice, not convention. Ju

Is it a selling point with much substance, though? Genuinely curious. Seems to me that if the American government wanted your data for some reason, obtaining it from Germany wouldn't be so hard.

I don't understand your point. Two people did something bad, so that means the promotion of LGBT rights as a whole is wrong? Would you like to count how many heterosexuals are in prison for doing the same?

Did you just compare a minor being told that homosexuality is okay to having sex with an adult? And as I've said earlier, that basically prevents any public promotion.

It's the same law; their logic is that promoting LGBT rights means promoting deviant sexual behaviour, and doing so publicly will inevitably reach children.

I won't disagree that demonizing Putin is what the government wants us to do. I remember how the U.S. funded Saddam to use chemical weapons on Iran and then overthrew him "for the sake of the people." However, it should also

I'm still new to Go, but the functions don't have to be anonymous, right? What would be wrong with defining all of your functions somewhere (for updates, iterations, etc.) and passing them by name to Bolt's?
