Where I grew up the outside is either a a park or a vast desert with pavement everywhere and heat that literally kills several people a year. Kids had the park or nothing, but now it’s literally nothing in that area. It’s sad that people li

Did you read where I said the outside has been closed for legal reasons? In my area that was the only outside park available. It has a fence around it and are you just suggesting kids go get themselves arrested or perhaps worse for trespass

When I was a kid just a few decades ago there were several things within my available area like arcades, mini golf, a small hill to play on, etc. today in that same area there is zero kids friendly entertainment except a theater that’s too

Citation needed. For all the claims of massive voter fraud, I’ve seen about three convictions in the news. I certainly haven’t seen evidence of massive fraud in the many, many states that allow mail in voting.

People should have more fun while doing important work. Being too serious when on the cutting edge leads to an overinflated ego.

Anyone know anything I can use to take video of a road from my car (a phone) and create a 3D scene from it? More focused on the scenery around the road as I can put a road surface in there myself later. I’m talking about several miles or pe

Complex human flesh is the point of all this stuff we make and do, maybe we shouldn’t put all that meat out of a job for no good economic reason? Busses, trains, ships, etc don’t need to be automated, one or a few professional humans can op

Model weights are just constants in a mathematical equation, they aren’t copyrightable. It’s questionable whether licenses to use them only for certain purposes are even enforceable. No human wrote the weights so they aren’t a work of art&#

Thank you for having morals and giving this away to the community. Governments already have enough power that they don’t need more. I respect this very much, it’s hard to find people on hacker news who aren’t dyed in the wool capitalists.

I can’t wait for every data hoarding app (Facebook, Reddit, Google) to require sideloading so now we’ll have the choice to either use Android or Apple when being tracked down to granular details. I want it to be semi onerous to enable apps

Okay thanks, I thought it was simply a simmering of the original works, but I don’t have the brains for this stuff anymore so I guess I missed that it was a new line of reasoning.

So theft is up in NYC and no other major cities, that’s considered an outlier in that case. Everywhere else, theft is down and not an issue. Your argument against the second article was “maybe those poor corpos just aren’t reporting crime”

With nix, you just have to be careful not to do anything non deterministic to get a deterministic build. With docker build, you have to specifically design a deterministic build yourself. It’s easier to just not use inputs that change than

What’s the evidence other than from corpo press releases? They haven’t shown numbers or evidence that’s the real reason, and you can’t trust a corpo to tell the whole truth.

Aren’t Nix builds actually deterministic in that they’ll build the same each time? Docker doesn’t have that, you’re just using prebuilt images everywhere. Determinism has a computer science definition, it’s not “build once run anywhere,” it
