How many people do you think are in the military? It’s way below one percent in the USA. In the last war we fought, we lost barely any soldiers compared to the number deployed. It’s bad that we lost any, but your argument is logically null.

For 12k, just attach a flotation device to a big octa-drone and drop it from the air. Then you can stay on station and use the camera to guide rescuers to the person. You could probably even drag a line out to someone attached a flotation d

I’ve used this method for a while now, not sure if it’s from this particular article or if someone else blogged the same idea. I also prefix any aliases or sh functions from my rc file with a comma. Mostly it gets me easy to find custom com

That’s not why they don’t do it, it’s because it’s way too expensive. That fact alone precludes it from being used on cargo ships. Now ask yourself this: do I want vessels flagged in the countries with the least regulations and the most cor

Go nuclear means the future. Past experiments failing is why I said that ships won’t GO nuclear, implying the future. I was a navy nuke, I know a bit about shipboard nuclear reactors.

I’ll eat my hat if cargo ships go nuclear. Even the US Navy stopped using nuclear for all but carriers. Shipboard nuclear is on another level to regular power plants for many reasons.

This article sounds like a press release for oil and ethanol producers. Big oil, still basically selling out the rest of humanity so they don’t lose all those profits.

Yea I’m saying the same thing, you need AGI to get whatever “superintelligence” is. That’s mostly my opinion, but I wouldn’t call it SI without AGI. Personally, I’m no AI expert, but we’re very far from AGI unless one of these experts knows

Once you have AGI, you can dedicate more cycles to it and the theory is (as far as I can tell) that you’ll get an exponential increase in “intelligence” which is basically just “thinking faster”. Personally, I don’t buy that fully, I think

Cats are definitely conscious in my mind, but when I kick my cat at night she gets up and looks at me like I just beat her on purpose, then usually attacks my foot. I guess my cat is an asshole at night! Thankfully she’s cuddly and nice whe

Costs a lot of cycles to run those for real, and it’s not super common to get infected with anything, so you’re wasting cycles for a small chance at avoiding it. This could be better since, I assume, it doesn’t do a lot of stuff.

On HN, you can be sure there are several people who literally believe the world would be better without any regulations or laws forcing businesses to do anything. This place is the pinnacle of anarcho-capitalism.

Walter constantly says things that are incorrect or lazy and no one calls him out, so this time I did so. I’m aware of the guidelines and the harsh language was because that’s all he understands. As you can see, he didn’t even care to read

Not fair at all, insinuating something then doing no work to verify is lazy. You’re smarter than that! Put in the effort necessary to research your positions.

You could probably look that up. Instead you made a stupid comment meant to insinuate something sinister. Edit: Here ya go Walter, I guess your compiler skills are better than your google skills. Several cases here were in favor of the busi

There was the NSA who was spying on the public without warrants as a military organization, in contravention to the constitution. Probably they’re also to blame. He just told us about the violations of the highest laws we have.

The ability to sync data in the background with the screen off is one. For example, Google Photos and Spotify require the screen on and app open to sync, while the Apple apps sync anytime they need to.
